No more upgrades via mySQupgrade for award tickets and basic economy with Singapore Airlines
KrisFlyer award tickets, along with Economy Lite, Economy Value and Premium Economy Lite fares, are no longer eligible for mySQupgrade offers on Singapore Airlines flights.
Bad news today for accumulators of Krisflyer points and in general for those who are planning to travel with Singapore Airlines and were planning to take advantage of the mySQupgrade service.
What is mySQupgrade
In this article:
This service was initially similar to the auction system that many companies, including ITA Airways, use to sell upgrades to passengers willing to invest for a better seat than the one they bought, but still spending less than what they initially asked for.
Then in 2022 the best company in the world has changed course by turning the service into a fixed-price system, of course always subject to availability. Operation is simple starting 72h before departure passenger can enter the appropriate section on the website of the company, enter your ticket credentials and check the cost and availability of the upgrade.
How mySQupgrade changes
The company has announced some changes to the mySQupgrade instant upgrade system; this option is no longer available for a number of tickets:
- Award Tickets (Saver or Advantage)
- Reservations in Economy Lite (V, K) or Economy Value (Q, N) fare classes.
These new rules are in addition to those already in place, which are:
- Tickets are not issued by Singapore Airlines
- Flights are not operated by Singapore Airlines
- Reservation of more than 9 passengers
- Infant(s) on reservation
- Flight Pass Reservations
With these changes, the rules then become similar to tickets booked with miles that are not eligible for any type of upgrade of with miles or cash.
Can I make last minute upgrades?
E' always possible to request an upgrade at the last minute i.e., at check-in counters, at the gate, and even in the cabin regardless of ticket type and class of issue.
