At Ciampino and Fiumicino with the CIE you skip the queue at non-Schengen controls
Activation today at "G.B. Pastine di Ciampino" airport, in a few days also at Fiumicino's "Leonardo da Vinci" airport
One more piece is added to make the passenger experience at the airport faster and safer. Starting today, at the G.B. Pastine airport in Ciampino, it is possible to use the electronic gates (and gates), hitherto intended for passport control, with only an Italian ID card, as long as it is electronic, valid for expatriation and issued after February 7, 2018.
The numbers of e-gates
In this article:
Every year at the airports of Aeroporti di Roma. more than 50% of passengers of all nationalities use electronic gates (e-gates) for passport control with a significant reduction in time to check, a number that brings the two airports of Fiumicino and Ciampino to the top of European airports in terms of use and functionality of e-gates.
Who will be able to use e-gates
This possibility, Valid for passengers holding Italian citizenship and older than 14 years of age, will be extended in a few days to Fiumicino's Leonardo da Vinci Airport, thus bringing Capital airports to be the first in Italy to introduce this innovation which implements the provisions of the Ministry of the Interior Department of Public Security, which recently authorized the use of electronic checkpoints even for CIE holders for the following destinations:
- Albania;
- Bosnia and Herzegovina;
- Bulgaria;
- Cyprus;
- Georgia;
- Ireland;
- Kosovo;
- North Macedonia;
- Moldova;
- Montenegro;
- Romania;
- Serbia;
- Turkey;
- Egypt (organized travel for tourism purposes only);
- Tunisia (organized travel for tourism purposes only).
Nothing changes for unlisted destinations
With regard to non-listed countries, nothing changes and therefore an e-passport issued by the Police Headquarters remains necessary for passage at the Border through the electronic gates.
