We have reached the third edition of our year-end ranking renamed TFCbest, An assessment based solely on personal experiences made during 2023. This year I reviewed on this site 40 lounge, on 6 continents.
In this article:
TFCbest honors the best of what we find around the world with our travels and report daily on our pages: lounges, flights, and for the first time in 2023, even hotels.
A little background and the roll of honor.
The ranking takes into account only and exclusively the lounges I visited during the year, so lounges that I have honored in past years but did not visit during this 2023 do not enter the selection.
In 2021 he triumphed Virgin Atlantic's London Clubhouse, while last year's award went to the AlFursan of Jeddah.
A small note on merit:
- the same lounge cannot win in two categories, the order of publication does not reflect the order in the rankings
- We report only the winner in each individual category and always compare based on lounge type and airport
- all the lounges we reviewed can be seen here
The best lounge in 2023
Did you get your flight cancelled, miss your connection, land late?
You could get up to 600€ compensation per person
I have visited so many lounges over the course of this year, but the band of the best definitely goes to the The Pier, the first-class lounge in Hong Kong, reserved for Cathay Pacific passengers And to those who fly oneWorld.
Reopened after nearly 3 years, it is a true sanctuary, where luxury and pampering allow passengers to wait for their flight. Here there is the opportunity to relax in small private rooms overlooking the runway, have lunch in a restaurant with an a la carte menu, get a massage in the spa or sip a distillate in an environment similar to a 5-star hotel lobby.
The best official lounge
Here the struggle was close, but in the end the winner was the brand new Al Mourjan lounge "The Garden" In the Doha airport in Qatar.
This lounge is the size of a provincial airport terminal in Italy and now that it is operational at 100% it is truly spectacular. A step above many other lounges at M.O. airports. Honorable mention, however, goes to the Los Angeles Skyclub, this is Delta Has really done a very good job.
The best lounge in Europe
This year has been very rich in openings, especially at Fiumicino where four new lounges have popped up at Terminal 1. The best lounge in Europe, however, is only one: the Business lounge at Air France terminal 2F in Parig.
I have lost count of how many times I have visited this waiting room, of course I don't do a review every time I pass through Paris. From the free spa to the spectacular view of the runway, from the relaxation area to the health bar. There is just everything, and this year I also saw an improvement in the food offerings, which had left me with some doubts in the past.
The best lounge priority pass in Europe
As mentioned I only evaluate those where I have been this year and the award definitely goes to the Primeclass at T1 Rome Fiumicino.
It is the least known of the 4 lounges that opened at T1 and is the most hidden, but is the best by detachment of the group. Of course it is not large, but they are all small, but it offers more than all the others. The little room to sleep, the phone booth to work in, a full bar, and an open kitchen.
The most beautiful lounge in Italy
Not being able to win the same lounge twice, this year's award goes to ITA Airways' Hangar Lounge. Rome Fiumicino.
Opened in early summer, ITA's official lounge at Fiumicino Terminal 1 welcomes passengers departing for Schengen destinations.
The best official lounge (away)
For the second year in a row this title goes to Qatar Airways, whether last year I had given the award to the Singapore lounge, this time the prize moves to Bangkok.
A small lounge that is a true masterpiece, here passengers can relax while enjoying dishes prepared with starred restaurant quality, or a cocktail or relax in a secluded environment that is never crowded. Honorable mention for Emirates lounge at Malpensa airport., the only certainty in an airport that is among the saddest in the world when it comes to lounges.
Best Centurion Lounge
This 2023 has not been very rich in visits to the Centurion Lounge by American Express. Of all the ones I visited certainly the one in Sao Paulo, Brazil, is the best. We are far from the peaks of London and New York, but as with everything else, not all donuts come out with holes.
