At Ciampino, the burger is delivered directly to the gate
Starting today, departing passengers will be able to order and enjoy their McDonald's menus right at the gate after completing all necessary security checks
At Rome Ciampino arrives, for the first time in Italy, the ability to order food remotely and have it delivered directly to the gate.
This service is already operating in several airports around the world. The first time I saw it was in Athens in 2022, and honestly I didn't see the point, sure the MC was super crowded and the seats were few, however you certainly don't have to be in a hurry because if you're short on time you run the risk of seeing the delivery arrive when you're already in the queue under the plane.
How the service works
In this article:
Chef Express and McDonald's project with Aeroporti di Roma. represents a novelty in Italy and marks an important step forward in the provision of food services. Through this innovative service, passengers who have already completed all the necessary security procedures required inside the airport will be able to go to McDonald's digital checkouts installed in a dedicated area inside the airside and order their meal, customizing some recipes.
The order, which can also be placed via the McDonald's App, will be freshly prepared by McDonald's staff in the restaurant located in the departure area preceding security checkpoints, taken beyond the gates and delivered directly to the dedicated area for customers waiting to depart.
This new service aims to significantly improve the travel experience by enabling passengers departing from Rome Ciampino each year, who numbered about 2 million in 2023, to order and enjoy their meal in a more relaxed and comfortable setting to enjoy a moment of total peace while waiting for their journey.
