The Executive Club, or British Airwyas loyalty program. has just announced a "momentous" change, a change that will change the habits of many travelers, including my own, as it changes an important piece of how loyalty levels are obtained/renewed.

Goodbye anniversary date

In this article:

    All members know their birthday date within the Executive Club, the reason is simple is the day on which the period of accumulation of qualifying points useful for status renewal expires. In my case September 8.

    From next year i.e. April 1, 2025, all British Airways frequent flyer members will have a new anniversary date, and it will be the same for all members. The Tier Point collection period will begin on April 1 and end on March 31 each year.

    How it works during the transition period

    The best benefits of British Airways' Gold status? are the ones not written down

    BA also explained the rules of switching between models. For Tier Point collection periods beginning by March 2024, there will be no change in the way you earn tier status, and any status earned within this period will be valid for at least 12 months. Any existing status valid beyond March 31, 2025 will continue for the full duration.

    Things change, however, for those who have, like me collection periods that expire beyond April 2024.

    There will be some Changes to transition all Executive Club members to the new year of point collection, giving them the opportunity to renew or update their status during this period:

    • The Tier Point collection year will be shortened and will end on March 31, 2025;
    • A level point adjustment will be added to your Executive Club account during the new level point collection year.
    • If you earn enough level points during the level point collection year to upgrade or renew your level status, it will be valid until April 30, 2026 (the expiration date of the new membership card).

    Example

    Your current Tier Point collection period begins on July 9, 2023 and ends on July 8, 2024.

    The level point collection year resets on July 8, 2024, which means your next level point collection year starts on July 9, 2024 and ends on March 31, 2025 instead of July 8, 2025.

    Tier Points earned between April 1, 2024 and July 8, 2024 will contribute to the overlap of your qualifying periods and will be applied as a Tier Point Adjustment.

    In practice, BA has decided that qualifying flights that will be made between April 1, 2024 and the anniversary date will be worth twice. The first on renewal until 2025, as is normal. Similarly, flights made during this period will also generate Tier points on status accumulation until 2026.

    In conclusion

    With Marika we have two different anniversary dates and this, in the past has played tricks on us. to renew his card, since flights were often taken based on my needs. Looking at this change from the perspective of a single traveler, I don't think it changes much, but for those traveling with friends and family, it's a great change to be able to synchronize their plans.
