As of July 4, 2023, day on which she was opened the San Babila station to the public, the M4 has changed the lives of many of the passengers heading to Milan's Linate airport or heading to the city center After landing at the city airport.

In this article:

Compared to the trip made by road (by car, cab, or line 73 bus) travel times have reduced significantly, not being 'at the mercy' of the capricious Milanese traffic. And they are, above all, certain: 12 minutes.

Compared with a cab ride, then, the M4 provides significant cost savings, since it the cost of a one-way ticket to/from Linate is 2 euros and 20 cents versus the 30 or so euros often needed to travel from the airport to the center and back.

San Babila is also a station on the M1 line. and thus offers convenient connections to those arriving from the northern and western parts of the city. The extension of the line to the St. Christopher terminus, expected by the end of 2024, will allow a Additional interchange with the M3 line (at Missori-Vetra) and the M2 line (at Sant'Ambrogio).

Looking at the schedule of planes arriving at the city airport just on Monday, Feb. 19, one can see how, to enjoy the extended opening of the M4 from Monday to Thursday will be passengers on at least two dozen flights.

In practice, all those coming in from 9:30 p.m. onwards: AZ113 from Amsterdam, BA570 from London Heathrow, AZ1630 from Bari, AZ219 from London City, AZ153 from Brussels, AZ2058 from Rome Fiumicino, SN3151 from Brussels, Wizz Air 5586 from Catania, AZ1790 from Palermo, easyjet 5067 from Berlin, AZ1702 from Catanial'Az1559 from Cagliari, KL1627 from Amsterdam, AZ1632 from Bari, AZ311 from Paris CDG, LH278 from Frankfurt, AF1732 from Paris CDG, IB3256 from Madrid, and AZ2130 from Rome.

Just ahead of the line's extension to the St. Christopher terminus (on the far southwestern outskirts of the city), the M4 will be closed to the public for several days in the coming weeks, to allow tests to be conducted along the route.

The closing periods, in particular, will be two: from March 8 to 10 and then again from April 4 to 10 inclusive. On that occasion, the Milan Transport Company. Will establish replacement buses which will travel between Linate and San Babila and between San Babila and Linate with the same frequency as the subway trains.

But travel times will, inevitably, be much longer and unpredictable. Those with flights departing from the city airport will have to take this into account.
