Residents and tourists will have over 400 flights weekly on 39 broken: will be 18 domestic destinations (including Milan, Rome, Bologna, Venice and Pisa with more than 10 flights per week) e 21 the international ones (mainly to France, Germany, Spain, England and Ireland but also on several Eastern European cities and even on Gothenburg, with 2 weekly frequencies).
The Irish company - which plans to carry 3 million passengers to and from Cagliari - will base as many as 3 Boeing 737-800 in the Sardinian capital airport and will create 90 jobs for pilots, cabin crew and engineers.
Jason McGuinness, chief commercial officer of Ryanair, said:
"As the No. 1 airline in Italy and Cagliari, Ryanair is pleased to announce its record-breaking Cagliari operations for the summer, with 39 routes, offering Cagliari citizens/visitors even more choices for their summer vacations at the lowest fares in Europe. With 3 Cagliari-based aircraft worth over $300 million, carrying over 3 million passengers annually and supporting 90 well-paid aviation jobs, Ryanair continues to provide more traffic, more jobs and more low fares than any other airline in Sardinia and Italy.
However, there is an opportunity for Sardinia to secure accelerated passenger and tourism growth over the next five years, provided the government of the Sardinia region abolishes the excessive municipal surtax that is hindering the growth of the island's connectivity and tourism sector."
Marino Piga, managing director of SOGAER, Cagliari Airport management company, commented:
"The excellent performance recorded in 2023 by the Irish airline in our airport is the consequence of a multi-year agreement that strengthens the partnership with Ryanair and that, in the future perspective, will see us committed to further growth together, both in terms of network and frequencies. Also thanks to the presence of the operational base in Cagliari, Ryanair in 2023 had about 2,700,000 passengers traveling to and from the Sardinian capital. This result allows us to look forward to the airport's growth with optimism."
