After the decision of the Friuli Venezia Giulia to abolish the tourism tax, Ryanair responded by opening a New "gamechanger" base in Trieste, starting in April.

(16 in total) to Berlin, Brindisi, Krakow, Paris and Seville from Trieste this summer will boost economic growth of the region with the creation of 600 jobs.Ryanair praises President Fedriga and Trieste Airport management for their vision and approach progressive in supporting tourism growth by improving connectivity and, as a result, lowering fees for the citizens and visitors to the FVG region through the abolition of the municipal surtax in Trieste. Now is the time for the Italian state to eliminate the regressive municipal surtax/tourism tax to stimulate capacity growth and Lower fares for passengers. Should the Italian government abolish the tax, Ryanair will respond with an investment of $4 billion in Italy, adding 40 new planes, an additional 20 million passengers a year and more than 250 new broken."
