One of the most recurring questions I am asked by new serial accumulators of points and miles concerns the accumulation of points and miles from the various loyalty programs. Specifically, the question, asked in various forms, can be summarized as follows: "I bought the ticket/booked the room, when will my points be credited?"
In this article:
The quick response is in 99% of cases after making the flight or staying in the hotel.
The exact timing varies and depends on, for example, whether you fly and accumulate on the same airline or you fly on one carrier and have entered the card of a different airline. In the former case flights are credited within 24/36h in the latter it can take up to a week or more.
In the case of an airline ticket if it is an a/r flight it does not change much, the points are credited after each leg and not upon completion of the itinerary.
In the case of hotel chains it is all faster, generally the day after check-out you see the crediting of points and status nights.
Only one loyalty program in the world has a different policy and it is the privilege club Qatar's. In this case point accumulation is triggered automatically after checking in, in which case you can use the accumulated points even before flying.
