Castelrotto is one of the most picturesque towns in South Tyrol. As of 2017, this beautiful town was included in the list of "The Most Beautiful Villages in Italy" thanks to its historical and artistic value. Its curious name comes from Castellum Ruptum (ruined castle), with a clear reference to the ruined fortress whose remains you can admire by going to the Kofel Hill, easily reached starting from the center of the village; it is a scenic spot not to be missed.

Castelrotto is a particularly active suburb where events are constantly being organized. One of these, which will take place from May 24-26, 2024, is the Oswald von Wolkenstein Ride which consists of a challenge between jockeys from four teams who will have to compete for victory by passing several tests; the last race is held near Presule Castle, a hamlet of Fiè allo Sciliar.
Every Thursday then, starting June 10, the weekly traders' market will be held in the village; on Fridays the farmers' market will be held.
A must-see event for those staying in these parts in June is theOpen Air of the celebrated Kastelruther Spatzen, folk group that have their roots in Castelrotto.
But there are plenty of other events you can attend in the spring and summer months.
