The news was already official, and recently the #2 of Air France KLM had implied in our interview. that it was a short time before the date was announced, and today it has arrived. Scandinavian Airlines will exit Star Alliance and join Skyteam, and the date of the transition will be next August 31.
How SAS's exit from Star Alliance will take place.
In this article:
Not only will the company have to repaint the livery of more than one aircraft, but he will have to set in motion a very complex machine since leaving is one of the founders of the Star Alliance that will reinforce The team of the "weakest" alliance.
SAS Will remain in Star Alliance until August 31, 2024 and EuroBonus members will be able to enjoy similar loyalty benefits when traveling on most SkyTeam airlines starting September 1, 2024.
EuroBonus will remain the loyalty program of SAS and the current rules and regulations for traveling on SAS will remain essentially the same. Status, points and membership will not be affected by this change, what will change is the alliance logo and thus the pattern of partners that those who fly SAS will have to learn about.
EuroBonus members will be able to enjoy the same benefits and accumulate points based on flying with a Star Alliance airline until August 31, 2024. And from Sept. 1, 2024, benefits will be received by. "with most SkyTeam airlines.". This phase will be very delicate, we will see whether as in the case of Virgin Atlantic, which also joined Skyteam at the beginning of the year., everything will run smoothly or there will be friction.
Travel with SAS through Aug. 31
EuroBonus members flying with a Star Alliance airline will enjoy the same benefits they enjoy today based on their Star Alliance Silver or Gold status.

Reservation of Eurobonus award tickets
This is a hot topic, especially for those who used SAS Frequent Flyer as a gateway to award tickets with carriers such as Lufthansa, Swiss, and the other Star Alliance carriers. In Italy this program was also the only one, along with Krisflyer of Singapore Airlines to be American Express partners for the use of Membership Rewards.
No new reservations will be allowed on Star Alliance airlines after August 31, 2024, so until the last day EuroBonus members can book Bonus travel on Star Alliance airlines using the Star Alliance Bonus Travel booking tool, even if the travel date is after August 31, 2024.
