15 months: so much was needed to realize the first livery in augmented reality by Brussels Airlines In collaboration with the iconic festival Tomorrowland.
In this article:
The new livery is called "Loving": the name is the same as the mythical volatile painted on the plane's fuselage, which-according to Tomorrowland's imagery-symbolizes unity and love between people and is the only one that is able to travel through the various worlds "of tomorrow" via "Paperworld" (the magical portal that connects the various worlds).
Augmented reality livery
As mentioned, this is the first aircraft - a Airbus A320neo, brand OO-SBB - to submit a livery in AR: the creature "Amare" comes to life when it is scanned from the smartphone and provides access to a range of exclusive content (e.g., pictures of Amare flying to Tomorrowland) that can then be posted on various social media.
This experience-somewhat futuristic-continues, then, on board the plane: thanks to sophisticated sound and lighting systems, passengers will be able to savor the Tomorrowland experience in the air as well.
"Loving" is sustainable
"Amare" is the second Airbus A320neo in the Brussels Airlines fleet and was taken delivery in December 2023. The 320neo, as it is known, not only reduces noise pollution by 50% but also emits 20% less CO2.
In addition to this, all Brussels Airlines travel packages in partnership with Tomorrowland will henceforth use sustainable aviation fuel and invest in programs to reduce CO2.
When and where "Loving" flies
"Amare," as can be guessed, will transport festival attendees to Tomorrowland but not only: the new A320neo of Brussels Airlines, after its inaugural flight last April 26, 2024 took off from Brussels to Tenerife, will operate Commercial flights around Europe.
Brussels Airlines' special liveries are among the most iconic in Europe
Special liveries are nothing new for the Belgian flag carrier: in 2015, in fact, it launched an initiative called "Belgian icons" whose purpose is to celebrate the figures who have made Belgium famous all over the world; for this reason some A320s have been painted with special liveries.
The first special livery was introduced that very year: it is called "Rackham" and pays tribute to Tintin, the famous Belgian comic strip.
Then, in 2016, came the livery "Magritte" dedicated to the famous painter, depicted intent on painting one of his pictures. Two years later, in 2018, came "Aerosmurf", the livery dedicated to the Smurfs. Another decidedly iconic livery is "Trident", dedicated to the Belgian national soccer team, both male and female.
Impossible not to mention, finally, the livery "Brugel" made in 2019 to mark the 450th anniversary of the death of the painter Bruegel the Elder. The liveries "Loving", in honor of Tomorrowland, have been made instead since 2016.
