Those who read TFC know that Moxy is the my favorite sign among all the ones in the group Marriott, I have lost count of the number of hotels of this brand that I have visited and have rarely been disappointed. Not even this time.
Location
In this article:
We are located in Altona, trendy district of the city, here is the Sunday market inside the 19th-century glass-roofed Fischauktionshalle, here is also a Soviet submarine converted into a museum, it is close to the Fairgrounds, and the trip to the airport took about 25 minutes (and cost me 40€).
Around the hotel there are several restaurants, clubs and it is a very lively area, I went to dine at one of the classic Turkish fast food restaurants with good reviews.
The special feature of this hotel is that Is a building divided into two hotels, both Marriott. One part is Moxy, the other is Residence Inn.
Reservation
As usual I booked through the Marriott app, quick easy and the only way to get benefits and perks, although the benefits of Bonvoy status in these signs is little. But only then do you accumulate qualifying points and nights and, of course, only then does every expense incurred become other extra points.
Check-in
Sometimes having the bar counter integrated with the reception desk, and vice versa, is not the best. If there are thirsty guests you run the risk of waiting for the bartender to dispose of the queue before turning into the receptionist.
After a couple of minutes of waiting, my turn came and in less than 3 minutes I had my card and my complimentary drink token, a custom in these hotels.
The room
The chambers in Moxy's 99% are all pretty much the same, to date only two hotels are different: the Moxy Williamsburg in New York and the brand new Moxy Bangkok.
In this case the upgrade, received through status, I believe gave me a room on a high floor with a view of nowhere and a few extra inches of room.
The equipment is the usual. Essential. There is nothing superfluous, there is no closet or a real desk, the bed is similar hanging with lighting, and there is the classic armchair. Nothing more or less, but that is what is promised and that is what you get. The only flaw was the room's mattress, which was too worn and had decidedly tired springs.
Bathroom absolutely in the standard.
The Moxy Hamburg Altona
The soul of these hotels is the ground floor, or at any rate, the area revolving around the bar. And I have to say that when the hotels are downtown, for example. I also had this happen to me in Brussels, the manner is really playful and animated.
As usual, there is a lot of street art and striking decor. The special feature of this Moxy is the many murals scattered throughout the common spaces.
Upon my arrival the lobby was full of (apparently) happy and "single" people I later realized why, a few minutes later a speed date would begin, one of the many weekly dates that take place at the hotel. Every week in fact there are theme nights, live music, and other events open of course to hotel guests and others.
Food & Beverage
I was surprised to learn that breakfast was included in my rate; it usually isn't and it's not even one of the perks associated with status, but hotels are free to make (ameliorative) adjustments to each individual sign's guidelines. The buffet is classic, basic, but complete.
It's just too bad that the kitchen instead closes at 9 p.m., okay we are in Germany and you have dinner at 6 p.m., but not in an international hotel. Really an inconvenience for many guests.
In conclusion
Moxy never (almost) betrays; this hotel was not perfect, but definitely a place I would return to without delay. There are two hotels of this sign in town, so be careful which one you book.
Second Moxy in Germany and second time I find a welcome "treat," which does not happen often (and never in Italy).

Pro
- The mood
Against
- Kitchen closes too early
