Very often we receive questions like this: "I have a small nest egg of points. What can I do with them? They are about to expire".
In this article:
Here, of the phantasmagorical world of points the thing that users least digest is the expiration date. Each program has different rules and so it is good to choose carefully where to accumulate. However, there are programs that leave no escape, e.g. Skywards is one of them.
The user in question writes to us that he has about 19,000 points Skywards but that it fails to take advantage of them before their natural expiration, which is 36 months from the date of accumulation.
Let us go in order. As we have said and written over and over again, It is NOT possible to transfer points from one loyalty program to another. In the case of Emirates, there are no ways to renew the life of the points, so it is important to know that even if they are few, they can be used in other ways.
Skywards points expiring how to use them
- To avoid expiring Skywards points you may decide to use them for "cash + Miles", i.e. to reduce the fare of a flight operated by Emirates or Flydubai: something, this, that we always advise against but, as they say, "desperate times call for desperate measures"; Certainly, however, if you do not have any trips planned this is the least viable route
- Use them to book the Milan match tickets and more or other events through the catalog of events such as concerts, games of different sports, and more.
- It is possible to use the points to book airline tickets with different partners, with a few points you can get free flights with easyjet, directly from the Emirates website
- Transfer Skywards points to the Heathrow Rewards loyalty program. and get credit to spend at the London airport. With 6,000 points you get £20 credit
- Also related to shopping can be redeemed for vouchers for excursions or events in Dubai
How many skywards points do you need for an easyjet ticket
Obviously it is not convenient at all, but if the alternative is to lose them then it is right to go that route as well.
With less than 10 thousand skywards points it is possible to detach tickets with the orange lowcost airline and fly around Europe. Of course it cries my heart to use the points this way, but it's better than letting them expire without any use.
In charity
Many programs have the ability to donate points to different organizations, Emirates has its own foundation that accepts, among the forms of support, miles that can be donated with a couple of clicks.
We hope with this new installment of TFC responds to have helped so many readers save their points or pointed out a clever way to use them.
