In recent days, European airspace has been severely affected due to airport slot management problems caused by Multiple simultaneous weather events occurring throughout Europe. These events compromised the ability of air traffic control authorities and Eurocontrol to manage traffic volumes, leading to significant delays and cancellations throughout Europe. This affected Wizz Air's operations, as well as those of other airlines, across the Continent.
In this article:
On June 26 alone, European airspace accumulated about 450,000 minutes of delay, including 360,000 due to bad weather, with significant delays exceeding 3 hours. Wizz Air's network has suffered more than 30,000 minutes of airport slot delays in the past four weeks compared to the same period last year due to this extraordinary situation.
We apologize for the inconvenience that may have been caused to some of our passengers, but the matter is beyond our control. Wizz Air had prepared to ensure inconvenience-free summer operations for its passengers; however, the air traffic control system seems to experience significant problems during the summer period. As a company, we are compelled to raise these issues with the relevant air traffic management authorities, including Eurocontrol, to ensure that appropriate mitigation actions are implemented to minimize disruptions.
