All that was missing was the officialdom. Now it has arrived. The Milan-Malpensa Airport was named after former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.
In this article:
L'ENAC, the National Civil Aviation Authority," the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport announced, "has approved the ordinance to change the airport's name; order to take effect immediately. Now all that is missing is Sea, the company that manages Milan's Malpensa and Linate airports: "the management company Sea S.p.A. will take care of the relevant fulfillments related to the new name," reads the Mit note.

A little less than a week ago, on July 5, it was Transportation titular Matteo Salvini who anticipated the news, which quickly rebounded in all newspapers and caused not a few controversies.

The opposition's reaction was not long in coming. The Democratic Party submitted a question to Minister Salvini to "clarify what procedure was followed for the naming of Malpensa airport after Silvio Berlusconi - reads the document - and what the reasons are for not complying with the procedure set forth in Law 1188/1927, which requires a period of 10 years after the person's death before naming a public place."
Predictably, this decision has raised quite a fuss; we shall see how it turns out. In the meantime, however, from now on the Varese airport will be known as "Malpensa International Airport-Silvio Berlusconi".
