July 1, 2004. With the flight Barcelona-Ibiza, airline officially born. Vueling. When operations began, the Spanish low-cost carrier had a fleet of only two aircraft (Airbus A320s), five routes, and 120 employees; today, 20 years later, it is time to festivities.

The low-cost company owned by IAG - a holding company that also controls British Airways e Iberia - has reached 124 aircraft, 250 routes, 200,000 flights operated each year and 4600 workers.
So many awards have been achieved in its first 20 years: one among them, "Best low-cost airline in Europe" award received by Skytrax in 2021.
When it began its operations, Vueling served only one Italian city, viz. Rome; today, however, it also flies in other 14 Airports: Florence, Milan-Malpensa, Milan-Linate, Turin, Genoa, Venice, Bologna, Naples, Bari, Catania, Comiso, Cagliari and Olbia.
Since its founding, the Italian market has always been very important for Vueling: This year, in addition to reaching important milestones at several airports (30 million passengers at Rome-Fiumicino and 5 million in Venice), strategic routes were inaugurated or reopened, such as the Comiso-Barcelona (a first) and the Linate-Barcelona (operational until 2021).
