This is not the first time I have been through Niagara Falls., Canadian side, last time they had just reopened the borders post pandemic and everything was still deserted. Today, things are profoundly different and coming there in the summer, in the week after the Fourth of July, Is like going to Fidenza Village on the opening day of the sales.
Visiting Niagara Falls
In this article:
If you have never been there, I will briefly summarize the important things to know:
- They are split down the middle between Canada and the United States, but the "beautiful" bank is the Canadian bank. Here are the hotels, the main attractions and of course, the best view
- They are easily visited in a day. It doesn't matter whether you sleep in Toronto or New York, just arrive in the morning and in the evening you can return happy or continue your journey
- It's somewhere between Las Vegas, an amusement park and a nature park. So there is certainly no boredom.
- The funniest thing is the boats with which to go under the waterfall, They depart from the American shore (Maid of the mist) and the Canadian shore (Hornblower Niagara Cruises)
That premise having been made, we come to the hotel of this review the Niagara Falls Marriott on the Falls, Not to be confused with the nearby Niagara Falls Marriott Fallsview which is positioned even "closer" to the falls.
Reservation
We stayed one night in this hotel booking thanks to the free voucher Chosen as a gift for achieving Titanium status last year. The voucher covers one night up to a cost of 35k points, to which you can add up to 15k points from your account.
In total, the expenditure was 11,500 points for one night + the voucher saving about 250 euros for the room, I even tried to request a guaranteed upgrade, with no luck. In any case we were upgraded from a basic room to a room on the 26th floor with a waterfall view.
Check-in
We arrived by bus from Toronto, with Megabus., the ride takes about 1 hour and 45 minutes, and the three tickets cost us about $50 for a trip from Union Station to the Falls bus terminal just below the hotel.
Practices expedited in a flash and within five minutes we were already open-mouthed admiring the view from our room.
The room
I didn't expect anything special from this room except the view. And I must say that by American standards the room was better than I expected.
Two Queen beds, of course there was no topper at the Toronto Sheraton, but the Marriott mattress is always a guarantee.
There was also a small sofa, too bad not exactly in front of the window.
In general, I would say that the room was recently renovated, even the finishes were still well maintained. Otherwise the usual setup with mega screen, kettle, coffee maker (American) and empty refrigerator.
Neat bathroom and walk-in shower and not the horror movie towel tub.
Making the difference and worth the price of the ticket is the view of the falls, truly dreamy and significantly better than the Hilton. Too bad only that the windows were not freshly cleaned.
The falls can be seen well from any corner of the hotel, even from the elevators.
In the evening, right on time at 10 o'clock, the fireworks arrived. Of course you are not close, but the spectacle of the illuminated waterfalls and the fireworks admired from the bedroom was truly surreal.
The hotel
I could say that the common areas were recently renovated, but they might as well be 5 years old.
On the ground floor in addition to the reception desk, the hotel bar, a Starbucks And a gift store. It seems like every hotel here in the Niagara area has a starbucks inside.
There is also a small swimming pool on the ground floor, perfect just to relieve the fatigue of a busy day below 40 degrees.
A gym is also available for guests to keep fit and work off North American cuisine.
There is also a small area in the lobby area where you can work on the PC, nothing transcendental, but if you need to make a call without waking up the family you can use it.
The lounge
If it's Marriott there's definitely a lounge. and the one in this hotel is certainly the smallest one I've ever found, but by far the one with the best view.
Open h24, from 5 to 7 p.m. it has happy hour with appetizers, while in the morning it offers breakfast to all guests who can access thanks to status and room type.
Breakfast
In North America, breakfast in hotels is to be avoided 9 times out of 10, this breakfast was the exception that confirmed the rule. It was not bad at all. In the complicated management of breakfast for those with status in the Marriott loyalty program., the world's largest hotel chain has not followed Hilton in eliminating the benefit altogether, and that is already a plus.
Being three, we had to pay for my daughter's breakfast, while the first two guests are covered through status.
Breakfast is buffet style, and that's already news for this part of the world, but the most surprising thing is that it was also good.
Wide choice of products and attention also to the dietary needs of people with special diets and food intolerances, in this respect they are light years ahead of Italy.
Also excellent omelets prepared on the spot and exquisite wait staff.
In conclusion
Is it worth sleeping a night in Niagara Falls? In my opinion, yes. Seeing them change color according to daylight, and lit up at night absolutely repays the night in the hotel. If you then choose a hotel where you can see them from the comfort of your bedroom, without having to walk through a crowd, it is even better.
