An on-the-road trip to the American East Coast cannot fail to pass through Philadelphia. Not only because the legend of Rocky Balboa was born here, but especially because. the declaration of independence was signed here, here is the Liberty Bell and this city, founded by a Quaker, was the capital of the United States until 1800.
A little diversion: take a trip to the "Amish region"
In this article:
Rarely in my articles do I recommend what to do "outside," but this time as happened in Sofia I want to make an exception. Before arriving in Philly we passed through Lancaster (Pennsylvania) and visited the Amish farm and house.
Lancaster is the American city where the most Amish live in the entire United States, out of a community of about 300,000 people, and there are over 40,000 here. The "home of the Amish" is the starting point for a journey into the community that I discovered fled the Old World in the 1600s because they were persecuted and today the communities live only in the U.S., Canada and two are in South America.
I was sorry to have done only the house tour. and not having more time to do the day tour, but I recommend it to all readers, even if you have children.
Reservation
Finished the tour in Lancaster we drove to Philadelphia and From Hilton's app, we booked one of the most central and cheapest accommodations in the city. We were not planning to experience the hotel, but just sleep and then go around the city.
Taking advantage of the Hilton for Business promo I also pocketed two qualifying nights for the price of one. Absolutely a bargain in addition to all the various bonuses from the other promotions. So in the end I accumulated 8504 points with an expenditure of $240.
Positive thing no hidden taxes or junk fees, as happens in NY or elsewhere in the US.
Location
The location of the hotel is perfect. We are in the heart of the theater district, less than 5 minutes from City Hall and Love Park, two of the city's most iconic locations.
From here you can walk almost anywhere in the historic district, that of the Liberty Bell and Independence House. You can eat at the famous Reading Terminal market and run up to the Museum of Modern Art, AKA the steps and the Rocky statue.
Check-in
We stopped at the reception just to get the iconic cookies that Doubletree guests receive with each stay, otherwise thanks to the app and digital keys in the U.S. one can go directly to the room after checking in from the APP.
The room
The structure of this hotel leads all rooms to have a corner window and a nice view of the skyline, too bad that if the windows are not washed often it is (almost) impossible to admire the view.
The room, with two queen beds, was very spacious and given the type of hotel it was well above the average star Hilton.
The coffee machine, mega screen, mini-bar (empty) along with the rest of the standard equipment.
Bathroom with bathtub, shower curtain and shower head at height of differently tall person. Something I really don't understand given the average size of the typical American.
The most beautiful thing is precisely the view, really nice to set up for breakfast in the room looking out the window.
The hotel
The facility is huge, very convenient the connected park that allows you to leave your car and do as many in&outs as you want without bleeding out.
The lobby is very scenic and, in addition to the reception desk, houses a small store and a pub.
There is a small indoor swimming pool, open from 6 am to 10 pm. A gym open h24 with also a free sauna for guests.
Breakfast
As Hilton is known to have removed, in the U.S., the free breakfast benefit, this translated in our case into 30$ of credit to spend at the hotel. To have a term of comparison, the very sad buffet in the hotel restaurant had a cost of 35$ per person.
We preferred to spend our credit in the store on the ground floor, expensive but not as expensive as others, and better stocked than other similar hotels around the US.
In conclusion
We took full advantage of the credit, left the car in the parking lot even after checking out and maximized late check-out, and most importantly, we enjoyed at 100% the hotel's excellent location for visiting one of the most beautiful and tourist-friendly cities in the entire U.S.

Pro
- Location
- Large room
Against
- Dirty glass ruins the potential of the view from the room
