The 'light' or 'basic' (or equivalent) fares offered by low-cost airlines normally include only transportation on board the plane (and quite a bit of the total consists of unspecified 'taxes' and 'fees'). So much so that on short- and medium-haul flights we have become accustomed to seeing people traveling with just a backpack and away they go.
However, Norwegian long-haul airline Norse reverses general low-cost trend for a few days (which is to offer less and less to their passengers), introducing the possibility of carrying a hand luggage weighing up to 10 kg in the cabin even for those who purchase its lowest fare, the 'Economy Light', remark. To make reservations you need to hurry, as the offer expires on Sept. 12, then you can travel from October 1 until June 15, 2025.
As a result of this, passengers who book a 'Premium Light' ticket (i.e. with the lowest fare among Premium Economy fares), Will have an increased carry-on baggage allowance from 10 to 15kg.
The move certainly responds to the Need to sell more tickets and make cash in those months (October, November, and then the first three to four of the new year) when a low-cost, fundamentally leisure-inspired company like Norse struggles to fill planes, as it does in the boreal summer months.
For the same reason, the carrier used to provide some of its Dreamliners on wet lease (i.e., with a formula that includes crew) to other companies during the winter months. E Among the companies to which it 'leases' its 787s is Italy's Neos. About half of its 12 Boeing 787-9s. (all set up in two classes and with two configurations of 56 seats in Premium Economy and 282 in Economy or 35 in Premium and 309 in Economy) Will end up 'for rent' in the coming months.
Italy, Norse flies only from Rome Fiumicino to New York JFK with a daily frequency until September 14. In October there will be five weekly flights, increasing to three in November, December and January. The other European hubs are Oslo, Paris CDG, London Gatwick, Berlin, and Athens, while the world destinations are New York, Orlando, Miami, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles in the U.S., Bangkok in Thailand, and Cape Town in South Africa.
