One of our readers, returning yesterday from New York JFK. reported to us what could go down in history as the first sign of integration between ITA Airways and Lufthansa. That is, the change of the lounge used in New York by the Italian airline to accommodate premium passengers and frequent flyers.
In this article:
ITA passengers can now also access the Lufthansa lounge and not just the Air France lounge. As stated on the Italian company's website, on the lounge page, both are present.
Pre covid (and pre ITA) Italian passengers had access to the Alitalia lounge, the only owner located outside the territory of Italy, today that room has changed tenants and has become the hall of Turkish Airlines, whereas since the new Italian airline began traveling to the Big Apple again, it has always used Air France's.
This is currently the only change in the rest of the network, in some cases there are the constraints of different terminals that prevent a similar solution in others the absence of LH lounges even though at Buenos Aires o Los Angeles there are two beautiful Star Alliance lounges that may soon open their doors to AZ passengers.
Where the Lufthansa Lounge at New York JFK is located.
This room is the first one you cross as soon as you pass through security.. The entrance is at the end of the corridor that is on the left just outside the control area.
In a straight line it is exactly on the opposite side of Air France's, and the two lounges look at two different areas of Terminal 1, with LH's facing the decidedly busier side
Better Air France lounge or Lufthansa lounge at New York JFK.
Of course, I visited both of them, several times, and already reviewed on this site. The only difference is. Lufthansa lounge I never visited it as an LH passenger, but only by taking advantage of Priority Pass, this lounge is also already accessible today to those who travel with LH and are American Express Platinum holders or to those who want to Use the free vouchers provided by the Miles&More Mastercard, the only Credit Card in Italy that allows you to accumulate points directly with your daily spending on the German loyalty program card.
Both lounges are divided into two floors. In the Lufthansa one, the upper floor is exclusively reserved for First Class passengers and senators, so currently ITA passengers only have access to the lower floor, in fact on the ITA website it is specified the "business lounge" which is precisely the one on the lower floor.
Here is the buffet area, the cinema area, and the relaxation area. One of the things I like is definitely overlooking the beautiful side of the runway since in addition to the view of T1 you have ample visibility to the gates of nearby T4.
ITA business class passengers, or Elite Plus status holders flying with the Italian flag carrier continue to maintain access to the Air France lounge as well. and, again thanks to Skyteam status also at the nearby KAL Lounge.
Again, AZ passengers only have access to the ground floor, as the upstairs restaurant is reserved only for those traveling Air France in business or first, or hold Ultimate status.
In conclusion
A few days ago ITA Airways passengers can access the Lufthansa lounge at JFK Terminal 1., in view of theofficial entry into the share capital by Lufthansa this is the first hint of integration visible and one of the many changes in habits that Italian frequent flyers will face in the next 12 to 18 months.
