Airlines around the world, low-cost and non-low-cost, are always on the hunt for revenue from so-called 'ancillaries', that is, anything that is not a direct result of their 'core' activity: flying, that is, transporting passengers, luggage and cargo from point A to point B.
In this article:
In a recent article in The Flight Club, we highlighted. The 'monstrous' figures that some carriers make each year from such things as checked baggage boarding, cabin baggage boarding, choice of seats on board, and sale of food and beverages or other products during the flight. We are talking billions of euros/dollars per year.
And some of those 'ancillaries,' such as the requirement to pay to carry luggage in the cabin or the paid seat choice in business class as well, have something of an obnoxious.
What she came up with Austrian Airlines, on the other hand, is something original and corresponds to an additional service to the passenger, or to passengers. For 99 euros the Austrian carrier offers the option of having your own check-in counter at Vienna Airport.
The desk can be booked online at Austrian's website but must be paid in advance by going in person to an airline ticket office (no online) at least 8 days before the departure date. E you have it at your disposal at the chosen time for at least half an hour (If you then want to have it for longer, it costs 99 euros for each additional half hour).
The service also includes the possibility of a dedicated message being posted at the 'private counter', which can be the passenger's simple name, as well as a wish if the departing passengers are a couple on their honeymoon or friends/friends leaving to celebrate a birthday or bachelor/bachelorette party. The initiative is, of course, useful for groups, who can thus share the cost of the service and also carry out check-in operations all together and without stress.
The service is also available for Lufthansa and Swiss passengers departing from Vienna.
