Yesterday, October 19, App in the air was permanently turned off. I only started using this app in early 2023 and I had fallen in love with it, unfortunately, however I soon discovered that it was on a dead-end track And with days numbered. When the final judgment came in September I took courage and switched to Flyghty, the other app that many people recommended to me, and today, after one month and 12 flights here is my review.
Flyghty's biggest flaw
In this article:
I'll spoil it right away so that those who are not compatible can go straight to another article, or they can go and buy an iPhone and then install it.
This is an iOS-only app, there is no and as far as I understand from different groups, no Android version is planned. The other huge difference with App in the air is that the free version, practically does not exist, meaning that after the first flight the free version ends and you have to upgrade to one of the paid plans.
The review
Let's say that even from the first screen you can see that it's a completely different world, it's like going from a regular 500 to an electric, they do (almost) the same things, but one is much more aesthetically appealing, and slowly you also discover the different functions.
My 6 favorite functions are:
- The information about the aircraft that will perform the flight, I'm not talking about the seniority of the car, license plates and things like that, but where it is and the different routes taken in the day. This function is perfect for figuring out whether the flight will be smooth or not, here you can see immediately if the plane is delayed even before the official announcements
- The reservation with all the details: PNR, schedule, place. All information that is retrieved directly from the reservation email
- Route history. By analyzing the data, the app summarizes your flight performance, useful information that helps predict your chances of arriving on time or not at your destination
- My flight history. Not only the "cold" charts, but also the cutaway to see the type of routes, the hours/minutes of delay accumulated, the planes I flew on, and much more. Topics for discussion with friends, but also eprfects to do my recap articles on TFC
- The weather radar, very nice to be able to check the status of weather conditions without leaving the app
- Notifications, timely and accurate.
A lot more I have probably yet to discover, such as I haven't yet started using the app on the iWatch, and I haven't yet started adding friends to play who flies the most and how, which then was a feature I really liked about AITA.
What I don't like
I will not miss the car check-in, never used. Rather I will have to get used to the home screen which no longer shows the date of the flight as the main data, but how many days/hours until takeoff, which in my opinion is less useful especially for those who do many flights.
How much does Flyghty cost
I tried to contact the developers to get a discount code, but received no response, At the moment I can only give away a flight test that allows the app to be tested at 100%.
It starts from a token/weekly fee, the annual fee is just under 48$, while the lifetime subscription costs 249$, there are then multi-user packages that save considerably on the list cost.
