After the announcements, the facts are finally in. Last Tuesday, October 22, as predicted, the first Boeing 777 of Qatar featuring the Starlink connectivity Elon Musk's.
In this article:
The company's plan is to equip 12 Boeing 777-300ERs with Starlink wi-fi by the end of 2024; by 2025, then, the goal is to equip the entire 'triple seven' fleet with Starlink; finally, in 2026, it will be the turn of the A350 fleet.
Starlink wi-fi will allow surfing (or playing online, even) at a maximum speed of 500 megabits per second. During last Tuesday's flight, which departed from Doha and directed to London-Heathrow, the CEO of Qatar, Badr Mohammed Al Meer, and the CEO of Space X, Elon Musk, they performed a videocall (at 35000 feet altitude!) to test the speed and stability of Starlink's satellite connection.
The result - ça va sans dire - was. amazing. But what is even more interesting, if possible, is the fact that Qatar intends to offer this Wi-Fi free of charge.
They are currently 7 airlines set their sights on Elon Musk's satellite connectivity: airBaltic, Air France, Air New Zealand, Hawaiian Airlines, Qatar Airways, WestJet and United.
