It may have been the climate, it may have been the culture, or much more likely it may have been the Suite upgrade, but Singapore's Marriott Tang does not show the 40 years it celebrated this summer.
In this article:
Whereas. Singapore is "only" 59 years old means that this hotel has literally seen the growth of the city-state over its lifetime, or perhaps more to the point it would be fair to say that it has witnessed the change of Orchard Road the beating artery of this nation.
Reservation
I chose to stay at this hotel solely and exclusively because of a promotion that For about 60€ more, on the price of the basic room guaranteed me 10 thousand bonus Bonvoy points, as well as useless things like cocktails and a discount in restaurants.
This living room also triggered mine 10th night in the promotion I had activated and so, with about 340€ I put in my pocket a whopping 25 thousand extra Bonvoy points, over and above what I would have accumulated anyway.
For this reservation I had also used one of my free upgrade certificates provided by the status. E a few days before arrival was guaranteed.
I also could have passed for Marriott Stars&Luminous, or the program for high-end facilities, but in this case I would not have had access to the special promotion, but only to the specific promotion that Give away breakfast even without status and other benefits.

Location
We are in the middle of Orchard Road., for those who are familiar with the area we are between the new Hilton and the Grand Hyatt, two hotels that have been completely renovated in the last 24 months. The Apple Store is 4 minutes away and large shopping malls all around.
Impossible not to identify this hotel, has architecture reminiscent of a Chinese pagoda, in this you can see the age compared to the soulless buildings of the 2000s.
Check-in
What happens if you arrive at the hotel at 7:45? you are greeted with a smile and no one says, "Sorry, but what are you doing here already?" It happened to me often and in some cases I was let up to the room immediately, other times I had to wait, a couple of times such as at the The Peninsula in Manila I gave up an upgrade to Suite in exchange for the free room.
Paperwork taken care of in 5 minutes, and by 8 o'clock I was sitting in the M Club, the hotel lounge, working on the computer. My room would not be ready until 12 noon so after doing some work I went around the city to shoot the images of the next installment of "24h a.... Singapore."
The 2009 suite at the Marriott Tang
The hotel has an octagonal structure. My room was right outside the elevator doors (which I like) and no noise could be heard, partly because it was so large that the trumpets were so far away.
A real Suite: double room, two bathrooms and lots of space. Let's say that in the same space probably 15 people live in some neighboring high-rise, no problem.
The entrance opens to the living room, with a corner sofa and glass window overlooking Orchard Road.
There is also a work area and bar area. This one definitely miserable.
Finally, there is the guest bathroom.
The master bedroom has an equally huge window to the best-known street in all of Asia, king bed and topper as only Marriott knows how to make them (and which sells at a very high price).
Bathroom that is almost an apartment. Double sink, tub and shower.
In short, there is everything you would expect from a Marriott and a suite, and I must say it was not lived in, but very well preserved.
The structure
As mentioned, it is a tower in the center of Orchard Road. The basement floors also house a small shopping center.
The lobby and public spaces are concentrated on the ground floor, let's say that for the size of this hotel the amenities are not very large.
Pool
On the 5th floor is the hotel pool. It is not huge, but compared to others in the area it is definitely better. If you want to work out you can do it.
Of course like everything else in the hotel it is not designed for a massive influx, but no city facility, not even the Marina Bay Sands and its spectacular swimming pool could accommodate all guests At the same time.
Around the pool there are private cabanas that can be rented, the point of having a room escapes me unless it is to get sick from the temperature change
MClub
The lounge is accessible to those with Platinum status and above in the Bonvoy loyalty program and to those who book executive rooms that include access. Is it worth the price difference ? if you are in a family it might make sense since it guarantees, even for those without status to have breakfast and evening happy hour.
The lounge overlooks the pool and has an open kitchen; it is not the prettiest, but it defends itself both as a location and as a food and wine offering that is ideal for a pre-dinner aperitif, or to do just dinner.
Food & Beverage
On the ground floor there is a cafeteria, small. The main restaurant and outside, under the porch is the hotel's main bar.
This one boasts of having the longest happy hour in all of Singapore, Here there is also one of the most popular brunches for locals (at least judging from what a hotel waiter told me).
Breakfast
In Asia, it is difficult to be disappointed and here is the only part of the world where it makes sense to pay for the most important meal of the day, if then thanks to the status it is free even better.
Of course there was not everything. For example, I didn't see the ice cream fridge and there were no islands with Indian cuisine, but everything else was on offer in the various buffet areas.
Also included is the perfect temperature Nutella spreader for effortless spreading.
What I can't stand is people who take everything and then waste the food, really a bad attitude.
In conclusion
Of course the price was higher, but being able to buy 10 thousand Bonvoy points for 60 euros was a chance not to be missed. After all. there are hotels where you can stay one night with less than these points. Perfect location for those who want to visit Singapore for the first time, the big discriminator is really prices.
In Singapore there are 5 stars that cost less and that (perhaps) they also offer something better.
