The shortcoming of the Moxy is. I am rarely in a central and interesting location and are often relegated near airports or situations that are inconvenient to urban tourism.
In this article:
This is not the case in Asia where from Tokyo to Bangkok to this one in Seoul. these hotels are in a perfect location to stay in the city without spending a lot of money.
Reservation
I chose this hotel because of its sign and its proximity to the Le Meridien, I just didn't imagine they were in the same building, which was perfect for not wasting time in moving from one hotel to another.
The reservation price, despite it being a very high season (national holiday in Korea) was more than half the price of Le Meridien, sure 170€ is expensive for being a Moxy, but the alternatives were all X2.
Location
Myeongdong is one of the most famous and lively neighborhoods in Seoul, known for shopping, dining and entertainment. Located in the heart of the city, it attracts millions of tourists each year due to its large shopping malls, cosmetic stores, fashion boutiques and Korean street food.
It is a paradise for shoppers and beauty lovers offering products at competitive prices. In addition to shopping, Myeongdong is also a great destination for discovering Korean culture through traditional restaurants and live performances. Its central location makes it easily accessible via subway, perfect for first-time visitors to Seoul.
Check-in
Before checking out of the Le Meridien, I asked what time my room would be ready, How cool to not even have to leave the building to change hotels.
Here basically on the 4th floor on the left you enter the Moxy and on the right you enter the LM. Of course from 5 to 3 stars, the difference is all visible, but to sleep one night was more than fine.
As usual, the reception desk is incorporated into the hotel bar and all public spaces are concentrated nearby.
Compared to all the Moxy's I've been to this one by far was the one with the fewest spaces, but in this plays into the fact that if you want to you can also pop next door.
The room
My room was on the 7th floor. The Moxy has rooms between the 5th and 8th, while Le Meridien occupies the upper floors and goes up to the 15th.
Average room, maybe a little bit bigger than usual, but nothing striking. Not comparable to the Moxy Bangkok that recently opened.
As usual read queen, in Moxy the kings (almost) do not exist, bathroom with classic white tiles and black faucets, but as an option there was the Japanese tablet.
Furniture hanging on the wall, to make the room look bigger and nothing special. For those who do not know, this brand was born in collaboration with Ikea, which had provided the furniture for the first openings.
The first thing I had never seen in a Moxy was a water purifier available to guests.
The real surprise, however, was finding the life-saving kit in case of emergency. Two steel eyelet plates are embedded in the floor, and there are two boxes in the room containing an emergency system that allows the guest to safely climb down from the window.
Of course as long as you know how to wear a harness and are not afraid of heights since we are on the 7th floor.
Common spaces
As usual they are all centered around the bar/reception/restaurant counter, there are the iconic social spaces that have made this format popular and copied by other chains.
There is a small game room with table soccer and two 80s cabinets.
There is a sitting area with a view of the outside, and little more.
Perhaps the main flaw is precisely the lack of this classic gathering space, a place where you can make friends, work and meet new people, but it is really very sacrificed here.
In conclusion
As usual, I never have breakfast in the Moxy, except in rare cases Is always half a disappointment and I prefer to take the points.
The Moxy Seoul is an excellent hotel, of course it must cost much less than nearby solutions not only Le Meridien, in which case I recommend it because the location is perfect for being a tourist in the capital of South Korea and walk to many of the iconic places to see if you are in the city for the first time.
