Historically, the relationship between Aer Lingus and British Airways has always been one of competition, where Goliath always got the better of little David. But then things slowly changed in 2015 when the Irish government sold its shares to the IAG Group which also controls British, Iberia, Vueling and in turn is participated by Qatar.
Finally Aer Lingus from (almost) all the benefits
In this article:
It would seem strange to talk about benefits now, when it is since 2020 that Aer Lingus has fully joined oneWorld, however, this is the case. Until now, relations with BA and the other alliance carriers were all over the place.
In recent days, however, came the announcement of the relationship with AAdvantage, i.e., American Airlines' FF, and now came the most anticipated one with the Executive Club. All this because until now the benefits were limited to accumulating avios and, from July this year, also TP points those useful for obtaining status.
Benefits for those with Executive Club memberships.
If you are a Bronze member of the Executive Club when you fly Aer Lingus you will get:
- Priority check-in for all persons included in the reservation, at an Aer Lingus Premium or Business Class counter
- Priority boarding for all passengers on the reservation
Obviously, the benefits increase for those with Silver or Gold cards, although the benefits are different depending on the route:
On ALL Aer Lingus routes:
- Priority check-in for all persons included in the reservation, at an Aer Lingus Premium or Business Class counter
- Priority boarding for all passengers on the reservation
- Extra baggage allowance
ONLY on transatlantic routes:
- Fast track with a guest
- Lounge access with a guest
- Extra baggage allowance
Unfortunately, however, there are additional limitations, for example, fast track is limited to Dublin, Shannon, London Heathrow, Amsterdam, Belfast, or Birmingham airports.
In conclusion
Many benefits are primarily for the UK market, but at least we are beginning to see real integration of the Irish carrier, even if agreements with all the other oneWorld carriers are lacking.
