A good portion of this 'boom' will be taken on the shoulders of the A321LRs that will join the Abu Dhabi carrier's fleet in the coming months and that will allow the opening of 'thin', i.e., 'thin' routes in terms of passenger traffic (this is why the A321-LR and -XLR were 'invented'), increasing the ability to penetrate certain markets.
Etihad will do so, at least initially, in the Far East and North African markets.
Starting Oct. 2, Etihad's A321LRs will connect three times a week (Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays) Abu Dhabi with Indonesia's second largest city, Medan. From Oct. 9 Will serve Krabi daily, a booming tourist resort on the west coast of Thailand (the one that 'looks' over the Indian Ocean.
From Nov. 3, they will fly every Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday to another Thai destination that is growing so much as Chiang Mai, a northern city surrounded by forests with a walled historic center and famous for its spectacular temples.
The capital of Cambodia Phon Penh will be served from October 3 with 5 weekly frequencies always with A321LR. Finally, still remaining in the Far East, the long-range, single-aisle bireactor will be used on the Daily connection between Abu Dhabi and the Vietnamese capital Hanoi from Nov. 3.
In North Africa, Etihad will use airplane to fly Three times a week from Nov. 1 in Tunis (on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays) and Four times a week starting Nov. 7 in Algieri (on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays).
The other three new destinations announced are. Taipei, where Etihad will fly from September 7 daily with Boeing 787-9, Hong Kong where it will fly Daily except Tuesdays and Saturdays starting Nov. 3 always with Boeing 787-9 e Atlanta, which starting July 2 will have four weekly frequencies on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays operated with Airbus A350-1000.
