Word of mouth: renewal. Finnair, the national airline of Finland, has just finished the cabin restyling of the first Embraer: Seven aircraft will be renewed during the 2024-2025 winter season, while the goal is to complete the upgrade of all 12 aircraft by spring 2026.

One of the main purposes of the cabin renovation was to reduce the weight of aircraft: lower mass results in lower fuel consumption and, consequently, lower carbon dioxide emissions.
"Both Business Class and Economy Class seats are lighter than the previous Embraer cabin seats, and the cabin carpet is also made of a lighter material than before. With these changes, we aim to reduce the weight of the aircraft by about 150 kg per aircraft", commented Eerika Enne, Head of Inflight Customer Experience of Finnair.
Speaking of seats, thanks to the cabin renovation, passengers will have access to the following two new types of armchairs: the seats in rows 1-9, reclining, offer a greater comfort thanks to the improved design and padding; from row 10, however, the seats no longer recline. "Onboard service, on the other hand, will remain unchanged," says Enne.

As for the number of seats on board, there will be no change: they will always be 100 seats available on Finnair's E190 aircraft. In conjunction with the cabin renovation, the LED lighting system was also upgraded. The color palettes and atmosphere of the new cabins were chosen to match those of Finnair's recently renovated wide-body fleet as well as Finnair's new Schengen lounge at Helsinki Airport.
"We wanted to create a harmonious, fresh and inviting travel environment for our customers, with a dark blue and gray color scheme and a hint of wood laminate - elements already present in our long-haul aircraft", states Enne.
Finnair has a fleet of 73 aircraft: 12 ATR 72, 5 Airbus A319, 9 A320, 13 A321, 8 A330, 15 A350 and 11 Embraer ERJ-190. Specifically, the Embraer fleet is used for domestic routes in Finland but also for shorter routes in northern and central Europe.
