When two years ago Finnair presented to the world its new business class left everyone stunned, a unique, never-before-seen and in its own way revolutionary product.
In this article:
If in the early 2000s BA had been the first company to launch an armchair that became a bed, the famous and now venerable Club World today, more than a quarter century later we have seen many evolutions to the unbeatable QSuite.
Because it is a different product
he point is that business class passengers do not have a seat to sit in. There is no backrest that reclines to turn the seat into a bed.
There is not even a mechanism as in the seat of Singapore Airlines that pulls down the backrest, because here there is no backrest at all as there is a lack of a seat.
The structure is a shell that envelops the passenger, the difference is all here, there is no seat but a kind of bench with a fixed backrest. No chair means much less weight to carry, thus less fuel being consumed and therefore greater sustainability.
In my opinion, it is convenient
I have read a lot about this chair online, some readers also shared their opinions with me. Some people love it and some avoid it. I was very skeptical, but in the end I came down convinced that AY did a great job.
Once you reach cruising altitude you can raise the leg support and complete the base assembly. A surface that allows the passenger to lie down, squat, wedge, tilt, in short, there is as much space as you want to seek your perfect position as on the couch at home.
I stood admiring the sunset in a position unthinkable with a traditional product; I would have gotten a stiff neck.
When you decide it's time to sleep you simply lie down, you don't tilt anything but lie down. Of course the surface is rigid, but it is not unlike the business on Singapore's A350s. I don't like to sleep in the plane exactly horizontally, but I must say that here, lacking the classic chair structure I slept well.
It is very spacious, precisely because the footprint of the shell is comparable to that of a traditional business, but here there is no seat so the passenger space is all usable, and it really makes a difference.
What didn't convince me
In my opinion a topper should be made available, a real one, not that kind of sheet that is given. Because not everybody likes to be lying on an already hard surface of a pillow.
Larger pillows should be given, and at least a third pillow than the two that are available.
Last but not least, I'm not convinced about the hygiene. It is all fabric, there is no headrest. You lean on it where the earlier passenger sweated, slept, I have no idea how often it is "washed," whereas with a leather seat you just need a cloth and go.
In conclusion
A full video and text review of the trip will be coming soon, Today I can only say that the product is promoted, now we will see if someone copies it and/or improves on it, certain it is the furthest thing possible from a QSuite.
