What used to be the Garden Inn is now called Dolce Milan, what used to be the Domina Inn is now called the Garden Inn, a switch that happened in early 2023. The two facilities are less than 400m apart, and an absent-minded regular could end up at the wrong hotel.
In this case there was more than just a quick stucco and painting activity, but an investment of more than 3.5M euros to entirely renovate the hotel and bring it in line with more modern Garden Inn furniture styles.
Location
We are located in Somma Lombardo, 15 minutes from Milan Malpensa airport.. As I know the only two facilities really close to the terminals are the Sherathon at T1 and the Moxy at T2, the role of a hotel near the airport I have explained many times, and for me they are often a lifeline. There is a shuttle service to/from the airport for guests, but unfortunately there is no information on the app on how to take advantage of it, and this is really a problem for these types of hotels.
Check-in
I arrived late in the afternoon after a long flight and needed to stay in the area for a series of appointments the next day. I could have also slept in other facilities, but I took the opportunity to cross the finish line of the 60th night in 2024. e Thus putting 40,000 bonus points in my pocket.
One senses that there has been not only a change of signage, but also an expensive redesign of the common areas. The ownership of the property is the same one that operates on other Hilton hotels in the Milan area and beyond.
In room
My room was on the top floor, and when I opened the door I could appreciate a cool environment, in keeping with the latest facilities I have visited around the world.
The room is spacious and minimalist.
The equipment is standard for a hotel of this category. Big screen, king bed, empty (but silent) mini-bar, kettle and sachets to make your own herbal tea.
The only flaw is that it is too minimalist, for example, the "not" closet also incorporates suitcase storage space, but it is small and the clutter of the ironing board makes it impossible to place even a small open trolley without doing strange balancing acts.
Renovated and aseptic bathroom with this marble finish, all modern, zero disposable plastic. Only one flaw, impossible to use a hair dryer in the bathroom, and the only outlet in the room suitable for a hair dryer (which in my case is a beard dryer) is away from the mirror.
The structure
There is an outdoor parking lot and about 20 indoor parking spaces, very nice that there is a high-performance column for guests.
There is the inevitable little store with snacks and wellness products as is the case in all hotels in this chain.
There is also a bar in the lobby; however, it seems to be a mockup, since both when I arrived in the afternoon, in the evening when I returned, and the next morning when I checked out, it was sadly empty.
Breakfast
The breakfast room, in the hotel restaurant, is very large and bright. It overlooks the outside of the hotel, and here, too, one appreciates the decidedly fresh and renovated environment.
The offer is complete, from sweet to savory, from hot to cold. The only flaw is not explained that there is also the possibility to have omelets and other items prepared from the kitchen, I noticed while eating that other guests were brought dishes directly from the kitchen, I have no idea if the same happens with hot drinks such as coffee and cappuccino, since the alternative are vending machines.
In conclusion
I had used the old Garden Inn Malpensa several times, this one is definitely cooler. The location is very similar and not very convenient because you are not close to the airport, but you are not always within walking distance of the terminal. The lack of shuttle info on the app is serious, as this is the first information I look for as soon as I arrive at the airport and have to go to this type of hotel
