The facility collaborates with combat instructors from the Rome Gladiator School, and the training takes place right inside the hotel. Guests who plan to participate in this experience will receive a "gladiator kit", complete with traditional tunic, Roman sandals, belt, protective gloves and the ever-present (wooden) sword: instructors will teach them how to fought the different gladiatorial categories, including the "trace," the "rooster," and the "provocator."
According to instructor Sina Hamidy, the gladiator experience is a real history lesson.
"It is not only a practical course, we also provide explanations of the real history of Rome," Hamidy said. "It is important to know how this city was born, how it became what it is today and how we should preserve it. This is our main goal."
The Waldorf Astoria Rome Cavalieri is located on the highest hill in the capital, within walking distance of the center and Vatican City, enjoys breathtaking views and is surrounded by no less than 6 hectares of greenery.
