Over and over again in these pages, we have written about Oman Air: founded in 1993, Oman Air is the national airline of the Sultanate of Oman and is undoubtedly the least known of those in the Persian Gulf.
In this article:
The carrier-which we have often referred to as a "boutique airline", and to get an idea just read the Apex Suite review - operates a fleet of some 30 aircraft, including Boeing 737s and 787s, both domestic and international flights; also flies to Italy, out of Milan-Malpensa.
Like other Gulf carriers - Emirates and Etihad, just to give a couple of examples - Oman Air is not part of any alliance: but, as we wrote, soon things will change, albeit a year later than planned.

As Executive Traveller reports, By June 30, 2025, the Muscat-based company is expected to officially join oneWorld, the alliance founded in 1999 by American Airlines, British Airways and Qantas, among others. From next year, therefore, Oman Air will be the second Persian Gulf airline to join OW, after Qatar.
Oneworld, among the 3 alliances, is the one that-currently-has the fewest members: only 13, compared to SkyTeam's 20 and Star Alliance's 26. The difference in numbers, however, is gradually narrowing as Fiji Airways will also join the alliance next year, while Hawaiian Airlines is expected to join in 2016.
In short, it is a time of major changes at Oman Air.: in addition to its imminent entry into OW, the company recently retired its A330s (as of today, the long-haul fleet consists only of Boeing's Dreamliners, as mentioned above) and even its own first class, renaming it 'business suite' - in fact, there will be no cabin redesign; however, the service will change (there will be a farewell to caviar and a downgrade of the wine and champagne labels offered on board).
