I will probably have to redo my passport in March 2025, at the moment in fact I have just over 3 completely blank and pristine pages, but they will not last long as I will be in Japan, the Philippines and Taiwan in January in what will be a bang start to 2025.
In this article:
However, this article wants to tell how my 2024 went, now that I have put my feet on the ground for the last time and continue in the tradition started last year, When I had put down on paper the 122 completed flights.
I changed the app to track my flights
I was forced to abandon App in the Air. e to switch to Flighty, this is not a branding, I am not paid to talk about this app, but it is the one where I have found it best to migrate my flights. I definitely gained in aesthetics, as this app (iOS only) has a much more appealing interface.
Therefore, I have no idea how many frequent flyers, in my network, have flown more, obviously excluding drivers and traveling personnel from the challenge, since this app does not have the feature that compares data with friends.
My passport marks 146 flights, and just under 400 thousand kilometers
This infographic perfectly sums up my flying during 2024, I have been in the air over 24 days, passed through 72 airports and boarded 52 different airlines for a total of 37 nations visited. Of course in some cases there was just enough time for a beer (or not even that as in the case of my 22h in Saudi Arabia).
In total, I have flown just under 400 thousand kilometers., with an average per flight of just over 2,700km. Flighty reminds me that the distance I flew is the distance between the earth and the moon, the same distance that would have allowed me to cover as many as 10 circumnavigations of the earth's surface (assuming it is not flat).
The shortest flight I took took me from Naples to Rome, while the longest flight that is also the world's longest flight is the one that flies, nonstop, from Singapore to New York JFK. The distance of the shortest was 198km, while the record flight covers a distance of more than 15,300km. Singular, however, that flight AZ1268 was not the shortest ever in terms of flight time, in this case it was The connection between Hanoi and Phnom Penh that lasted only 43′ , while the maximum time spent in the air was on flight SQ24 just under 18h between takeoff and landing.
One in two flights arrived late
Every second flight I took this year landed late, But these statistics should not be misinterpreted. Certainly with China Southern I was a good 6h late, but almost all of that was due to bad weather and a typhoon that had hit (and devastated) the Canton area.
More interesting to see, net of extraordinary causes, the behavior with the most used airlines. For example with British Airways I was late 5 out of 6 flights taken this year, but not much better with KLM, Lufthansa, Air France and ITA Airways.
Let's say that departing from certain airports is a near condemnation when you consider that every time I took off from Amsterdam, Rome, and Paris in 2024, I took off late.
My "home" airports and favorite airlines
Living in Liguria, it is normal that my airports of choice are those in the Milan area, and I actually flew very little from Genoa and Nice this year. The number of routes flown this year was 136, and no route I flew more than twice.
Looking at this ranking compared to last year's shows how profoundly different my routes have been over the course of 2025. In the top 8 airports only JFK is not a European airport, whereas last year there was BKK, DOH and KUL
Trying more and more vectors is one of my goals and I've flown a lot of firsts this year: from Zip Air to Scoot, from Norse to Gulf Air just to name a few.
One of the data that surprised me the most in this ranking, however, was to see that Lufthansa is the airline I have flown the most with this year, as many as 16 routes. That's an incredible jump considering that last year it wasn't even in the rankings. A lot of short to medium-haul flights, which don't even show up in my stories, but here we come back to the talk of taking advantage of status when flying economy.
To conclude the aircraft figure, in this case I measure by time spent on board, not total flights. As many as 118h I spent aboard the A350/900, that of the longest flight in the world, but also of the Barcelona/Milan or many other experiences that I have recounted on the YT channel. On the other two steps of the podium the Dreamliner variant 9 and 8. Last year, on the other hand, it had been a triumph of the 777/300 ahead of the A380, two models where I traveled very little this year.
Forecast 2025
I think in December next year the rankings will be lower Than this year, SAS's million-mile race was engrained here. Not only the need to fly on 15 Skyteam carriers in a very short time, but also the fact that they have to be located at several airports to complete the feat. In addition, during the course of 2025 there will be news that will bring me, especially in the second half of the year to do several fewer flights, but at the moment I don't want to spoil it.
