As anticipated in recent days, with the Green light for Lufthansa's acquisition of ITA Airways, is easyJet the company identified by the European Commission as 'remedy taker' for what concerns short-haul flights to and from Italy.

Beginning in the spring of 2025, the British low-cost, will get new slots: The aim is to ensure competition in connections between Milan-Linate and Rome-Fiumicino and some European airports in Austria, Belgium, Germany and Switzerland, and thus avert the monopoly of AZ and LH. In addition to this, then, the British company will base 8 Aircraft, five of which at Linate and three to Fiumicino. There will be a total of 38 orange aircraft in its four Italian bases, which are Malpensa, Linate, Fiumicino and Naples.
"We are proud to have been confirmed as a short-haul remedy taker in Milan and Rome. This will ensure an increasingly competitive Italian market, allowing easyJet to offer an even wider range of destinations and attractive fares for Italian consumers. Passengers flying to and from Linate and Rome will benefit from new services starting next spring. This decision confirms the company's central role in the Italian market, creating opportunities for further investment, new jobs and sustained growth," commented Kenton Jarvis, CFO of easyJet and future CEO.
easyJet, starting next spring, will fly to and from 20 Italian airports and expects to carry more than 21 million passengers a year, making Italy the second largest market for the British airline.
