The punctuality of an airline depends on a multitude of factors. But, among them, a crucial role is played by the airports the airline flies to, primarily the hub or hubs from which it operates. And, in fact, in the rankings released by air transport data and analysis agency Cirium and relating to the airports where people depart most frequently on-time, there are many that have a close connection with the most punctual companies in 2024.
In this article:
In those rankings it was Aeromexico that stood out above all, among the 'Global airlines' And there it is, Among the most punctual 'global airports' (i.e., those with traffic between 25 and 40 million passengers annually and that are connected to at least three continents of the world, including the one in which they are located), its Mexico City hub appears in third place.
Another company found in the top 10 was Delta Airlines. E As many as six of its hubs (Salt Lake City, Minneapolis, Detroit, Los Angeles, Seattle, and Atlanta) are in the top 20 'Global airports' from which people departed most frequently on-time in 2024 (i.e. within fifteen minutes after the scheduled time of the flight).
However, leading the top 20 is Riyadh airport., from where 86.65% of flights took off on time during the year that just ended (and it is no coincidence that Saudia made it to the podium of the most punctual airlines in 2024). The Saudi capital's airport is followed by the one in Lima, Peru, from which 84,57% of flights took off on time, and from the one in Mexico City (84,04%).
As many as nine U.S. airports then appear in the top 20. (in addition to the six delta hubs also Washington Dulles, Philadelphia and Phoenix), two Middle Eastern stopovers (Doha and Abu Dhabi) two Europeans (Oslo and Copenhagen) two Latin Americans (Santiago de Chile and Bogota) And only one from Far East Asia (Osaka Kansai).
The top 20 'Large airports' largely traces that of 'Global airports', since the categories overlap, for the most part. But there are some new entries such as Honolulu in second place (with 84.85% of flights departing on time), New York La Guardia to the seventh (82.39%), Washington National in 14th place (81.11%) and Fukuoka in 19th place (80.84%).
The top 20 'Medium airports' is led by Panama City airport (90.34%), 'home' of Copa Airlines and a major hub for flights between North and Central/South America, followed on the podium by Brasilia (88,19%) and from Osaka Itami (the Japanese city's 'domestic' stopover (88.18%).
A roundup of North American, Latin American, and Middle Eastern ports of call follows. The 'latitude' of European and Far East Asian airports stands out..
Among the 'Small airports' they lead as many as two Ecuadorian airports: that of Guayaquil (which recorded 91.38% on-time departures) in front of that of the capital Quito (90.05%). On the lowest step of the podium sat the airport of Cape Town (89,39%).
North American ports of call dominate in the top 20 category followed by Latin American ports of call, while the'Europe is represented only by Trondheim (in Norway) and the Far East by Nagoya. Also between airports, as among the companies, Italy does not appear anywhere in Cirium's top 20.
