The prices of hotel rooms in New York Have reached immoral levels, never mind the location or even the stars.

In this article:

They are all expensive and the prices, nine times out of 10 do not meet the quality offered. I as usual when I am in the city, but it applies to all my travels, not just the Big Apple, I always try to stay in a different hotel.

I had to sleep one night in New York and my options were reduced by my schedule. I would land at 10 p.m. at Jfk and depart Newark at 11 p.m. the next day. This led me to choose to sleep in Manhattan so that I could take a walk downtown between the two flights.

Of course I could have stopped and slept in the vicinity of JFK, but crazy prices and miserable facilities, except for the TWA where, however, I have already been (and which I recommend to everyone). It wouldn't have even made sense, given the time of day, to move already to New Jersey, and so in the end I chose this Tapestry Collection, which was the cheapest hotel in Manhattan of all the available Hilton hotels (even of those I had already stayed at).

The cost of the room was 246$ After taxes and surcharges. Almost a mirage given hotel prices in NY, even off-season.

    Tapestry Collection

This was my first stay in a hotel under the Tapestry banner. This brand encompasses independent hotels that for marketing reasons have decided to join the Hilton portfolio.

Each hotel under this banner is different and must, or at least should, be distinguished by a refined and sophisticated product.

    Location

We are between 47th and 3rd two blocks from Grand Central, a short distance from One Vanderbilt one of the coolest addresses in New York at the moment. We are in East Midtown, just a few blocks from the Glass Building.

The beauty of these locations is that they are far from the hustle and bustle of Times Square, but you are still close to all the city's hot spots.

In the area there are several old school pubs, stores and as in all of New York, much more.

    Check-in

I arrived that it was 11:30 p.m., had already checked in via the app and applied for the digital card. In the U.S., there is no need to show your ID at the front desk, if there is a credit card in the app, nothing else is needed and you can go directly to the room.

    The room

My room was on the second floor, which would then technically be the second floor above the reception area.

The hotel is a tower of some 20 stories and I had been given a room on the lowest floor, this teaches that in the U.S. Being Diamond Hilton is like having a 4 of trumps in your hand.

My room was a classic "Nuiorchean" room that was small and basic. Let's just say that the refined soul of this Tapestry I just didn't see it.

Bed, mega TV, empty minibar. The only exception is the coffee maker.

Renovated bathroom with classic heated pavement.

The most terrible thing about being on the second floor was the proximity to the pub, neighboring, while the most distressing thing was the noise the air conditioner made, so absurd that I had to turn it off and sleep in the heat.

    The rest of the hotel

The nice thing about this hotel was that it offered nothing else. Zero social spaces, no bar or restaurant. Nada. In front of the reception two, say two seats, really something I've never seen in my life.

    Breakfast

For more than 3 years, Hilton Honrs has taken away the benefit of the free breakfast at Hilton hotels in America. For these stays, according to the level possessed, you get a credit to spend at the hotel.

As is often the case here in NY, the hotel does not have its own restaurant and relies on a neighboring one accessed from the front desk. In this case Is an Italian restaurant called "Allora", a long and narrow room where guests, if they wish, can consume credit during opening hours.

I as a Diamond was entitled to 18$ credit., but be careful with this voucher you don't cover the cost of almost anything, because I remind you to the prices on the menu you then have to add taxes and tips.

For example, I had eggs benedict (23$) and a glass of orange juice (6$) and in the end the bill was 37,90$. Be careful not to double tip, since it is often already included in the bill, but is still asked for extra.

    In conclusion

Without praise and with much infamy, but at least the price was "low" compared to even worse dive bars that cost up to 100$ more. New York should be avoided until something changes in the hotels, but since when Airbnb has become virtually illegal I don't see any big changes in the short term.

    The verdict
At this price, at this time in history, it's a choice that I would feel like recommending to many people for a New York City vacation. You're just far enough away from the mess, but I walked easily to Wall Street. The rooms are not small, around the hotel there is a lot of "local" life since the area is not massively touristy, I was unlucky with the room.
