One of the most interesting features of the Hilton Honors program are the rollover nights. In practice, if you exceed the nights required for a level, during a calendar year, the nights in excess of the quota that gives status are recharged in the next year's collection.
In this article:
Brief recap on Hilton Honors status
The Hilton Honors Program has three levels besides the basic one, Silver, Gold and Diamond. As I have explained in several articles there are three ways to achieve the status:
- Based on the number of stays
- Based on the number of nights stayed
- Based on the number of base points accumulated
The qualifying period is for everyone from January 1 to December 31. To get up to Diamond, the highest level, you need 30 stays, 60 nights or 100 thousand base points, respectively.
The distinction between nights stayed and stays is very important to understand and is also important to know because it is the one that also governs the disbursement of bonuses. Nights are the nights you sleep in the hotel, stays are the check-outs that are made. Beware, however, that the practice of backtoback, or checking in/out at the same hotel on two continuous nights are counted as one stay.
How Hilton rollover nights work
When you exceed 60 nights and reach/renew the Diamond nights stayed above this threshold are retained and loaded, automatically, into the next year's collection. In my case, last year I stayed 72 nights in Hilton hotels, or rather they were half, but I wisely took advantage of the "qualifying double nights" offers. As you can see, I have not yet made any stays this year, but I already have 12 nights loaded in my way at the renewal of status until January 2027.
Of course, rollover nights are counted on all levels, this means that if a user stays 19 nights, they will renew Silver and the following year they will leave with 9 nights already loaded into their account.
5 important things to know about rollover nights
- The maximum number of rollover nights that can be carried into the following year is 60
- Rollover nights are only transportable from year to year
- Rollover nights do not count toward Milestone Bonuses
- Rollover nights do not count toward the ability to gift status to a friend/colleague/relative
- You don't have to ask for anything or register, it is an automatic function for all users
