We are a far cry from the maxi purchase made by Air India a few years ago, however ANA defended itself well. All Nippon Airways has just put down on paper a order of as many as 64 aircraft: 18 Boeing 787-900, 12 B737MAX 8, 14 Airbus A321neo e 20 Embraer E190-E2, for a total expenditure estimated at approx. 14 billion dollars.

ANA currently operates a fleet of 240 aircraft, consisting of both Boeing- and Airbus-produced aircraft (and to a small extent also 20 De Havilland Canada DHC-8-400 turboprops). What is interesting, however, is that ANA has set its sights for the first time on Embraer.

The E190-E2s, deliveries of which are expected to begin in 2028, will be used on domestic routes; ANA, moreover, will be the first Japanese airline to use the new-generation E-Jets. Airbus A321neo and Boeing 737MAX 8s will also be used for domestic flights, while the 18 Boeing 787-9s have been ordered for Increase capacity in international routes (as well as the delay in deliveries of the 18 B777-9s ordered some time ago).

Indeed, it is worth noting that in Japan, after the Coronavirus pandemic, outbound tourism has not yet fully recovered; on the contrary, the Demand for flights to the Land of the Rising Sun is stronger than ever. ANA, therefore, intends to intercept as many passengers as possible, hence the decision to reach into their wallets and order several dozen aircraft.
