Small devaluation in Marriott Bonovy house: costs of the 7 most exclusive facilities grow

I waited a few days before writing about the depreciation That hit Marriott's Bonvoy loyalty program., I waited to see if it was a targeted repricing activity or was it a first step in a much worse devaluation and Fortunately, it would seem to have been just a targeted choice of only 7 facilities, what we might call the crown jewels of the Marriott family, considering the fact that BVulgari hotels are not bookable with points.
Which facilities now need more Bonvoy points for.
In this article:
As known Marriott until 2022 cataloged its facilities in categories, 1 to 9. Depending on the category, the redemption of award nights had a fixed cost (min/max), but then the program switched to a dynamic pricing mode, but without seeing the previous philosophy completely disrupted. Now almost 3 years later we are seeing the first real change, with 7 facilities, which are seeing their price points increase significantly, these hotels are:
- St Regis & Ritz Carlton Maldives (min. 108,000 max 198,000)
- JW Marriott Masai Mara (min.192,000 max 236,000)
- Ritz-Carlton Reserve Zadun (min.125,000 max 212,000)
- St Regis Red Sea (min.125,000 max 212,000)
- Ritz-Carlton Reserve Dorado Beach (min.163,000 max 254,000)
- Nujuma, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve (min.187,500 max 327,500)
- North Island, Seychelles (min.443,000 max 605,000)
These are the facilities that saw their prices increase, significantly. It must be said, however, that these facilities had room prices that were decidedly out of scale when compared to the rest of the portfolio for the same number of points charged. In practice it is as if with this move Bonvoy has reparameterized the cost in points making it, less affordable, but more aligned with the cash price.
In conclusion
It is a devaluation, but it could have been much worse. Certainly these are some of the most sought-after destinations for serial accumulators of points and miles, but it is also true that the price in points was perhaps too low compared to the asking price, However, we hope to see no further changes and that the bad news has stopped here.
