The most attentive readers, as well as those most passionate about special liveries, they will surely remember the contest launched a few months ago by Brussels Airlines to choose the new "Belgian Icon", namely the new livery that pays homage to the history and culture of the Belgium.

Last November 4, a 10-member external jury (which included the CEO and marketing manager of Brussels) decided on the winner of the contest: it is Thomas Fakes, a 44-year-old architect whose design for the new Belgian Icon is dedicated to theAtomium, one of the symbols of the city of Brussels and Belgium.
The winner, in recent months, has been working together with the company to turn his design into a livery-the result has finally been unveiled. The paint job of the new Belgian Icon, let it be known. Brussels Airlines, required over 400 liters of paint and about 2,400 hours of work.
Thomas Fakes did not limit himself to designing "only" the livery: he was also responsible for creating a special interior design of the aircraft. Passengers, once inside, can retrace the history of the Atomium thanks to some of the sketches originals and photos dating back to 1958, the year it was built; in addition to this, detail lovers will appreciate in no small part the presence in the carpet of many 'little Atomiums'.

The special livery dedicated to the Atomium was painted in one of the Airbus A320s (brands OO-SNM) featured in the Brussels Airlines fleet. The first commercial flight of the new Belgian Icon took off just yesterday, March 27, at 09:25 a.m., bound for Prague.
Currently they are 3 Belgian icons in service: "Rackham", introduced in 2015, pays homage to the famous Belgian comic strip "The Adventures of Tintin"; there is, then, the livery "Trident" dedicated to the Belgian national (men's and women's) soccer team; finally, the latest to be unveiled is "Loving" to celebrate the Tomorrowland festival.
