Traveling by plane in the company of your pet you can, many and more airlines allow it-both in Italy and in Europe and the rest of the world-but not all of them. Most importantly. not some of Europe's best-known low-cost airlines, such as Ryanair, easyJet o WizzAir.
In this article:
Dogs, cats, birds, hamsters, rabbits, fish. These are the most common pets in Italian homes. And according to a report by Eurispes, a well-known research institute, Italians who own a pet are, to date, 32.7%, with an average monthly expenditure of 100 euros on food and health. One third of Italians therefore have an animal in the home, and a decidedly upward trend.
Pets are increasingly a part of our lives, and even when we travel, they often come with us, especially on airplanes. But which airlines to choose?
On TFC you can already find some important insights into the Rules to follow in different airlines that accept animals on board, especially with regard to traveling in the United States.
Instead, today we are going to analyze the major European low-cost airlines: some allow animals, some do not, but guide dogs do.
European low-cost airlines and pets on board: all the rules
Vueling
Dogs, cats, birds (excluding birds of prey), turtles are allowed on Vueling. Rodents, lagomorphs (e.g., rabbits), animals of the mustelid family (e.g., skunks), farm animals, raptors and reptiles, fish are not allowed.
Animals included in the list of animals allowed on board, they must travel inside an approved non-rigid carrier with a maximum size of 45 x 39 x 21 cm and 8 kg of weight including the animal. Under no circumstances will it be possible to transport animals in the aircraft hold.
In the case of dogs and cats, they can travel Up to a maximum of 2 in the same carrier, as long as they are of the same species and/or litter and do not exceed the allowed weight and size limit.
Animals that due to special characteristics (bad smell, sanitary condition, hygiene or aggressive behavior) could be harassing or dangerous to the rest of the passengers and crew will not be allowed to be carried.
Any animal not included in the list of those allowed on board, dead or alive (including rhino horns, ivory products, etc.), may not be transported and will be considered Illegal animal trafficking.
Volotea
Small dogs and cats can be brought on board on Volotea, and the animal must be at least 8 weeks old. No other animals are allowed to be brought on board.
Pet, carrier and necessary accessories must not exceed a weight of 10 kg. Otherwise, your pet will not be allowed on board.
Your pet must travel in an approved pet carrier or bag that is not rigid. Under no circumstances may the animal be removed from its container from the time of boarding until arrival at the terminal after disembarkation from the aircraft.
You must bring with you all the necessary documentation for transporting your pet.
A maximum of 5 animals are allowed on board the same flight. Check for availability.
Norwegian
A maximum of 2 two pets are allowed in the cabin per flight on Norwegian (up to three very small dog or cat puppies traveling in the same container may be booked as one pet). They must be at least 8 weeks old to travel.
Cats or small dogs may travel in the cabin on domestic flights in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Spain (excluding Svalbard Islands). Check-in must be completed at least 1 h before the flight.
Allowable weight including carrier: 8 kg
Maximum size of carrier: 43 x 31 x 20 cm if rigid, or if soft and slightly larger, it must be able to be squashed to fit these dimensions.
Carrier features: ventilated, with waterproof bottom, with anti-leak closures
Rates: €55-75 (online) or €60-85 (at the airport), per animal, per way.

Ryanair
Ryanair does not allow pets on its flights, except guide/assist dogs on certain routes.
easyJet
EasyJet does not allow animals on board, with the exception of guide dogs assisting passengers with disabilities.
Wizz Air
Pets are not allowed on board, with the exception of guide dogs. You should be sure to pack your guide dog's necessary travel documents, which must comply with the regulations of the destination countries.
