Loyalty has no price, Ben Lipsey recently told CNN, But evidently La Premiere does..
In this article:
A few minutes ago a reader reported to me an increase in the cost of award tickets in the transalpine carrier's most exclusive cabin, but Never would I have expected such an increase, especially given the transparency the Flying Blue program has always had I would have expected advance notice for users, a buffer period, for the most loyal passengers, the only ones who can book with points this cabin.
You have to be at least Platinum to book La Premiere with points, this means that it is not enough to have a fair amount of Flying Blue miles, but you also need to fly a lot aboard Air France KLM and Skyteam carriers, that's why I think we all deserved at least a little notice.
Prices increased even more than the 50%
To have a term of comparison last year I flew to Tokyo using 249k Flying Blue miles, a figure similar to the cost at which tickets to Singapore could be found.
Today the same ticket costs a whopping 378,000 miles, which is an increase of 51.8%. A figure that honestly makes this collection almost unthinkable given that with the same points you can detach two round-trip business class tickets to the same destination.
The smallest increase is on the route to New York where it went from a minimum price of 220k to just under 300k. Monstrous increases also to Singapore, Los Angeles, and Sao Paulo. All three well above 300k miles each way, plus taxes and surcharges.
Air France prepares for rollout of new La Premiere
The only justification I see, but it is not enough to make up for the lack of notice, is the imminent launch of the new cabin at La Premiere whose veil will be lifted in the coming weeks in Paris.
In recent days I have been very critical of Lufthansa, but at least they Have had the honesty to give 3 months' notice to mileage accumulators before triggering the increase, instead of doing an overnight devaluation as in this case.
In conclusion
After touching the regular tickets now the increase also affects Premiere, i.e., the dream of all Flying Blue members and the reason why so many are trying to get the Platinum level and then be able to achieve it.
