Rome Fiumicino Airport rises higher and higher in the ranking of world airports. Last March 10, Airport Council International (ACI) had confirmed it as the 'Best Airport in Europe' for 2025 in the category of airports that handle between 40 and 50 million passengers each year.

A few days later, at the conclusion of an audit conducted in the days between March 18 and 21, Skytrax rating agency confirmed his 5-Star rating, which is the highest score on the scale ranging from 1 to 5 stars. An accolade that Leonardo Da Vinci shares with just 21 other airports around the world, among which are 'holy monsters' such as Singapore Changi (Awarded by Skytrax as 'World's Best Airport for 2025'), Doha Hamad International, Istanbul, Munich, Seoul Incheon, and Tokyo Haneda.
Making the recognition even more special is the fact that then Europe only two other airports (Munich and Istanbul) can boast the 5 Skytrax Stars and the fact that Fiumicino earned them for the third year in a row.
This was not enough, in the course of the Skytrax's 'World's Best Airports' 2025 award ceremony, held in Madrid, Fiumicino was ranked eighth overall in the world, entering the world's top 10 airports for the first time and climbing four positions since 2024.
The capital's stopover is over behind Singapore, Doha, Tokyo Haneda, Seoul Incheon, Tokyo Narita, Hong Kong, and Paris, the only European airport to precede it, But it placed ahead of Munich and Zurich. Also confirming how 'tough' it is to get that high in the Skytrax rankings is the fact that Fiumicino is in 2025 the only Italian airport in the British rating agency's top 100.
"The confirmation of the 5 Skytrax Stars and the new recognition to Fiumicino Airport, which has risen to eighth position globally, demonstrate once again our constant commitment to ensure quality and excellence of services, focusing on innovation and sustainability, to our passengers," said Marco Troncone, CEO of Aeroporti di Roma. "Our goal now is to further develop Leonardo Da Vinci, strengthening Rome's role in the global air transport landscape, as well as in a logic of protecting and consolidating Italy's international competitiveness."
At the award ceremony in Madrid, Leonardo da Vinci has been recognized as 'Best Airport in Southern Europe', consolidating its role as a Mediterranean hub that should soon be confirmed in its positioning within the Lufthansa Group's chessboard of hubs, and 'Best Airport in the World' in the category of airports handling between 40 and 50 million passengers annually.
It then ranked second in the world for the handling of baggage security screening, third in the world for the best dining experience at the airport' and third in Europe for airport staff efficiency and courtesy. Not to mention that it is the second best airport in Europe behind only Paris Charles De Gaulle.
