But at the Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg has 'taken it a step further,' unveiling its new Economy and Premium Economy seats for the Boeing 787-9, made by Recaro and called R3 and R4, respectively.
The seats will be installed by 'default' on the three Dreamliners that ANA has yet to receive from Boeing and will instead be replaced to the existing ones on the 16 aircraft already in the Japanese carrier's force from the beginning of fiscal year 2026.
Also benefiting, in terms of comfort, will be Italian passengers, since ANA also flies from its Tokyo Haneda hub to Milan Malpensa three times a week just with the Boeing 787-9.
Premium Class R4 seats offer seat spacing of about 40 inches or 101cm (which puts ANA 'on par' with the world's best PEs, including those of Emirates and ITA Airways) and an increased recline of about 2 inches (5cm), providing greater relaxation and reducing fatigue during long-haul flights.
Economy Class R3 seats offer seat spacing of approximately 33-34 inches (which is among the most generous in the world, as far as long-haul Economy is concerned), which allows the seats to recline two inches (5 centimeters) more than those that are fitted on Japanese Dreamliners today.
In addition, each R3 and R4 seat is equipped with a universal power outlet, USB-A and USB-C sockets, and, for the first time on an ANA aircraft, Bluetooth audio connection, which allows passengers to use their Bluetooth headphones and devices to connect to the in-flight entertainment system. IFE's individual screen size will be 15.6 inches in Premium Economy and 13.3 inches in Economy. The number of seats per row will remain the same as today, with a 2-3-2 layout in PE and 3-3-3 in Echo.
