If you've passed through Heathrow's Terminal 4 at least once, you probably haven't noticed anything special about the. And yet, right there, tucked in between duty free, there is a must-see treat for those who love airplanes (and also for those seeking a moment of peace between flights): it is called The View. And it is, without exaggeration, one of the most beautiful viewing terraces ever inside an airport.
What is The View?
In this article:
It is a covered terrace, accessible only after security checks, and is located next to Gate 15. There are no illuminated signs or advertisements: you have to search for it a bit, but when you find it you feel as if you have discovered a secret club for aviation enthusiasts. You enter through a door reminiscent of an airplane door, then go up (either on foot or in an elevator), and voila: a privileged view of Heathrow's southern runway, the control tower, and - hear hear, hear - British Airways' legendary Concorde opens up before you.
What can you see from there?
Everything. Absolutely everything, including British Airways' Concorde.
Landings, takeoffs, pushbacks, taxis-and if you're lucky, even a few A380s taxiing right before your eyes. It's a real spotter's spot, but comfortably inside the terminal and protected from the wind. The view is spectacular, and the silence (yes, you read that right: silence) makes you forget for a moment that you're in one of the busiest airports in the world.
It is positioned just on the opposite side of the Sheraton London Heathrow, One of the best as a view of the LHR runway.
Why it is worth going there
Because in a terminal like T4, Where lounges are certainly not the strong point, The View is a free, quiet and super atmospheric alternative. You can go there with your take-away coffee, relax, take some photos or just enjoy the air traffic show.
Oh, and if you're traveling with children (or friends who are a bit impatient), it's also a great way to distract them while waiting for boarding.
How do you get there?
Once past security, turn right and follow the signs to gates 15 and 16. You will find the entrance on the right, well signposted.
