The consolidated financial statements approved by the Board of Directors on March 27 certify a strong improvement in the company's economic and operational performance: revenues up 26% to 3.1 billion euros, positive EBITDA of 337 million euros and net income still in the red by 227 million, affected by currency effects and financial charges related to new fleet leases.
During the year, ITA Airways operated about 138 thousand scheduled flights (+11%) carrying about 18 million passengers (+19%), increasing its market share especially in domestic. The fleet reached 99 aircraft (including the new generation 65%) thanks to the entry of 26 new aircraft.
"Achieving positive EBIT is a historic achievement which testifies to the company's transformation from a start-up to a solid and growing operator," said Joerg Eberhart, CEO and DG of ITA Airways. According to the manager, the prospects for a sustainable breakeven in net income are real, especially with the activation of synergies with Lufthansa.
