Although Scandinavian Airlines has officially left Star Alliance, members of Singapore Airlines' KrisFlyer frequent flyer program can breathe a sigh of relief: the benefits have not gone away entirely.
In this article:
Indeed, for those who have achieved Elite Gold or PPS Club status, flying with SAS will continue to offer a premium experience, at least until further notice.
Confirmed benefits on board SAS flights
As of April 1, 2025, KrisFlyer Elite Gold and PPS Club members can continue to enjoy numerous benefits even when flying on flights operated by Scandinavian Airlines, despite the fact that Scandinavian is no longer part of the Star alliance. Here are the main benefits:
Access to SAS lounges at major airports:
- Copenhagen (CPH)
- Oslo Gardermoen (OSL)
- Stockholm Arlanda (ARN)
- Gothenburg Landvetter (GOT)
- Chicago O'Hare (ORD)

In addition to this, Gold status holders have access to all Gold Star Alliance or Skyteam Elite + privileges namely:
- Priority check-in
- Priority baggage handling
- Extra baggage allowance, specifically: +32 kg in Business Class on long-haul routes, +23 kg in Business Class on European flights, +23 kg in Economy Class
In practice, those who fly SAS and have Gold status in the Singapore Airlines loyalty program will have preferential treatment very similar to that granted by Star Alliance, at least in ground services and baggage.
It's not all gold, but you can't expect everything.
KrisFlyer members will continue to earn KrisFlyer miles on all eligible routes operated by SAS. Be careful, however. Elite miles will no longer accrue, which are necessary to maintain the status. Likewise, it will no longer be possible to book award tickets or upgrade with KrisFlyer miles on SAS flights. In summary: What really changes for Gold members.
In conclusion
SAS' exit from Star Alliance was a momentous change, but Singapore Airlines has chosen to keep its relationship with the Scandinavian airline alive, ensuring its frequent flyers' experience remains up to par, at least for now. Flights do not help renew status, but if you are not interested in accumulating on a Skyteam card, it is better than leaving points on the street.
