The news had been announced last March, at Hamburg, Japan-based airline had lifted the veil on new economy and premium economy seats that will be installed on the 787s, and now comes the most anticipated announcement, these seats will arrive during 2026 and will replace the current seats aboard Dreamliners flying intercontinental, so even those who reach Milan, three times a week.
Exhibited at Safran's booth, "THE Room FX" represents a significant evolution of the famous "THE Room" product launched on Boeing 777-300ER, now offering the widest seat in its class on a midsize aircraft, with a sliding door to ensure maximum privacy on board.

Fruit of a International collaboration between ANA, French manufacturer Safran Seats and British design studio Acumen, the new seat aims to redefine the business class experience for passengers on long-haul flights.
"ANA is committed to providing the highest level of customer experience and looks to the future with 'THE Room FX,' which embodies our commitment to increasingly comfortable and innovative travel," said Tomoji Ishii, Executive Vice President, Customer Experience at ANA. "This seat is a symbol of our vision of luxury in the skies."
"THE Room FX" is scheduled to make its operational debut from 2026, with a phased introduction on major international long-haul routes. The new product will complement the current "THE Room" to offer passengers an unparalleled flight experience in terms of space, privacy and comfort.
THE Room FX: design, technology and sustainability
FX stands for "Future Experience"-a new philosophy of comfort and flexibility. The design introduces new ergonomic positions, a larger side console for personal items, and industry-leading bed space.
Key features include:
- Superior comfort through an optimized layout with thin walls, curved lines in the headrest, and an alternate front/back configuration that makes the most of the B787's cabin.
- Functional seating: much wider than the current 787-9 seat, includes a pre-reclining feature that turns the seat into a lounge sofa. Adjustable leg rests also allow for the creation of a true custom bed area.
- Technology on board: 1.4 times larger IFE screen than the previous generation, USB-C and wireless charging, plus Bluetooth audio connectivity.
- Sustainability: thanks to thinner materials for doors, backs and partitions, the total weight of the chair is comparable to that of current seats, while providing more space and comfort.
Space and lots of technology

The flight from Tokyo Haneda to Milan Malpensa is operated precisely with Dreamliners it is therefore logical to expect that in the course of 2027 these chairs will also arrive in Italy, of course there is still a long way to go, but Is still a significant upgrade over the current product. I had a chance to touch and try the mockup at the trade show in Paris, and I have to say that it is really a product that deserves to be called The Room, of course you don't have the space of a 777, so it is logical to expect something less, but the designers who optimized it did a great job.
In conclusion
With this renewal of Dreamliners, which are the backbone of ANA's long-haul fleet, the Japanese company is preparing to close the gap between the 777/300 and 787, always waiting to hear whether and when he will receive the 777/9 who have been ordering for (almost) 10 years and still have no delivery estimate.
