Once again, for the seventh time: Rome Fiumicino airport is the best in Europe, as of 2018, in the category of airports over 40 million passengers.

This was established yesterday in Athens by the international trade association ACI (Airport Council International) Europe at its 35th General Assembly, where, each year, they are awarded the "Best Airport Award" the ports of call that stood out for staff excellence, for digital transformation, technological innovation and eco-sustainability of airport infrastructure.
This recognition comes at the end of the week in which thee Skytrax awards ceremony in Paris, of which so much has been said, and which have affected different categories of the aviation world, From the world's best airlines to airports with the best services.
This is an important moment for the roman airport which is confirmed for the Seventh consecutive best year at the European level. And not only that. Fiumicino is an airport that enjoys excellent health and for several years already continues to grind out numbers, in terms of passengers and quality of services.
Also rating agency Skytrax recently confirmed Fiumicino's 5-Star, which is the highest score on the scale ranging from 1 to 5 stars.
An accolade that Leonardo Da Vinci shares with just 21 other airports around the world, including Singapore Changi (Awarded by Skytrax as 'World's Best Airport for 2025'), Doha Hamad International, Istanbul, Munich, Seoul Incheon, and Tokyo Haneda.
The evaluations were carried out by an independent panel of 8 institutional representatives from the European aviation industry including the European Commission, EUROCONTROL, ITF, ECAC, SESAR JU and others.

But for what reasons has Fiumicino been confirmed as the best in Europe?
The reasons, cited by the jury are as follows:
- Continuous pursuit of operational excellence;
- commitment to the transition green, with the inauguration last January of the largest self-consumption photovoltaic system in a European airport;
- Data-driven management of airport processes;
- A consolidation in relations with the stakeholder institutional
As a testament to the capital city's continued attractiveness, nn the first 5 months of the year, the Fiumicino hub recorded a new 7% increase in passenger traffic compared to the same period in 2024.

It is recalled that in 2024 Rome Fiumicino experienced its best year ever, touching the 50 million passengers and recording his record number of passengers in a single day, with about 180 thousand.
It was, also, among the top 100 European airports by recorded traffic, the one that has grown by far the most since 2023: +21, 3%. Translated, it 'processed' more than a fifth more passengers in 2024 than in the previous 12 months.

Among the infrastructure that has been developed is. the lounge system (net of those of individual airlines) accessible for a fee or with one of the cards such as Priority Pass and Dragonpass.
Today at Fiumicino there are five: a Plaza Premium, a PrimeClass and a First Vista in Terminal 1's Boarding Aera, as well as a second Premium Plaza (Awarded last year as the world's best independent lounge at the Skywards Awards) and a second First View In the boarding area E (non-Schengen) of Terminal 3.
